Fans went crazy as Bryson DeChambeau brought his US Open trophy to the Southern Methodist University (SMU) student section. The American golfer had a phenomenal season in 2024 as he lifted the trophy of the Major event for the second time in his career. He registered an incredible one-stroke victory over Rory McIlroy after a dramatic finale at the Pinehurst No. 2 golf course in June 2024.
Recently, Bryson DeChambeau arrived with the trophy at his former university. The students welcomed him with open arms, cheering loudly for the two-time Major winner. The LIV golfer celebrated his enthralling win with the fans.
DeChambeau, who made headlines for allowing his fans to touch his US Open trophy at the time of winning, once again let the students at SMU to touch the trophy as he passed through the crowd.
Notably, Bryson DeChambeau is in the off-season with the completion of the third season of LIV Golf in September. The 2025 season of the Saudi Circuit will start next year, and until then, the 31-year-old has plenty of time away from the greens.
However, he is scheduled to tee it up in December for the exclusive tournament The Showdown in Las Vegas. The game will feature PGA Tour players and LIV golfers playing against each other. DeChambeau will join Brooks Koepka on the greens while Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy team up for the event.
"It's a dream come true" - Bryson DeChambeau on winning the 2024 US Open
DeChambeau's US Open triumph came down to the last holes. It was head-to-head between him and Bryson DeChambeau, with the winner determined on the very last hole.
The Northern Irishman was in contention to win the title, on the verge of breaking his decade-long Major winless streak, but he struggled on the final few holes. McIlroy shot three bogeys on the last four holes, while it was DeChambeau’s day, as he made only one bogey in the final stretch, giving him a one-stroke win in the Major.
During the press conference after the tournament in June 2024, DeChambeau said (via ASAP Sports):
"I don't know what to think. It fully hasn't sunk in yet. I just want everybody to enjoy it, as well. As much as it is heartbreaking for some people, it was heartbreak for me at the PGA. I really wanted this one.
"When I turned the corner and saw I was a couple back, I said, Nope, I'm not going to let that happen. I have to focus on figuring out how to make this happen. I was a little lucky. Rory didn't make a couple putts that he could have coming in. I had an amazing up-and-down on the last. I don't know what else to say. It's a dream come true," he added.
Notably, this was the second time Bryson DeChambeau won the US Open. He previously won the title in 2020, when he registered a phenomenal six-stroke victory over Matthew Wolff.
