Rory McIlroy let his frustration out during the second round of the 2025 US Open at Oakmont Country Club on Friday, June 13. After hitting a poor tee shot on the par-4 17th, the World No. 2 smashed the tee box marker with his driver.
The moment was caught on camera and shared by NUCLR Golf page on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:

McIlroy came into Friday’s round looking to bounce back after a rough start to the tournament. He opened with a 4-over 74 in the first round, and his second round didn’t bring much improvement.
He began Round 2 with a double bogey on the 1st hole, followed by another double bogey on the 3rd. He managed a birdie on the 9th, wrapping up the front nine in 3-over 38. In the back nine, he carded a bogey on the 11th, followed by a birdie on the 15th. His poor performance appeared to boil over later in the round when he vented his frustration on the 17th tee.
Oakmont has a reputation as one of the toughest courses in golf. Rory McIlroy, who had already found the course challenging during his practice rounds, has continued to struggle with its demands through two rounds of the third major of the season.
