Who is leading the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic after Day 1? Leaderboard explored

The first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic concluded Thursday, June 27, at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan. The first 18 holes were the scene of a fierce battle in which 16 players finished within three strokes or less of the leader.

Akshay Bhatia leads the Rocket Mortgage Classic with a score of 8 under. Taylor Montgomery and Michael Kim are tied for second at 6 under, while five other players are one stroke behind.

Akshay Bhatia played the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic bogey-free with one eagle and six birdies. This is the second time this season that Bhatia is the leader after 18 holes; the previous occasion was at the Valero Texas Open, where he earned his second PGA Tour victory.

Defending champion Rickie Fowler also played a solid first round at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Fowler scored 6 under, with six bogeys and no birdies and is one of five players tied for fourth place.

Fifteen-year-old Miles Russell, who is making his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, played the first round for a score of 2 over, with two birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey.
