The Rocket Mortgage Classic is a PGA golf event, held at the Detroit Golf Club. The event began in 2019 and mostly takes place in the months of June or July annually.
In the 2023 season, the event was won in a playoff by Rickie Fowler, defeating Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa with a birdie on the first extra hole. He received the winner's share of $1.5 million of the $8.8 million purse.
Rocket Mortgage Classic 2024 History
One of the most recently established golf tournaments, Rocket Mortgage Classic, was founded in 2019 and replaced the Quicken Loans National event, hosted and benefitted by Tiger Woods. Rocket Mortgage Classic is the first PGA event to be held in Detroit.
The tournament was a part of the Open Qualifying Series for the 2019 season, which granted two non-exempt players entry into the then Open Championship.
Tiger Woods started the National Golf Tournament, which was first sponsored by AT&T until 2013, then by Quicken Loans until 2018. Held at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, the event was one of the five PGA invitational events.
Technically, The National succeeded The International, another golf tournament that ran from 1986 to 2006. There were a few concerns with the courses the event would be played on, as the Congressional Country Club, which agreed to host the event, underwent renovations in 2009. Regardless, it returned in 2012, 2015, and 2016. TPC Potomac was eventually finalized for the 2017 season.
However, Quickens Loans terminated their sponsorship agreement for the event, putting the 2018 event in contention. Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour commissioner, agreed to run the event despite the lack of a sponsor in order to honor the PGA's commitment. The event was eventually replaced by the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Rocket Mortgage Classic 2024 Course
The Rocket Mortgage Classic is held at a private golf club, the Detroit Golf Club (DGC), which is situated in the heart of a north-side neighborhood close to the Palmer Woods Historic District and the University of Detroit Mercy. It is part of Wayne County, Michigan.
The history of the club has been intertwined with Detroit's and the game's traditions since 1899. The club has two 18-hole courses, the north and south courses, which are managed by the club's ground crew.
The whole 36-hole course was created by architect Donald Ross, the man behind many of North America's best courses. However, the course was originally a six hole course designed by Bert Way; later, nine more holes were added and it was finally converted to a 36-hole course by Donald Ross.
