The newest edition of the Hero World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods, is set to tee off on December 5 at the Albany Golf Course in Albany, Bahamas. The event will feature a stacked 20-man field compete for the $1 million winner’s paycheck from the event’s $5 million prize purse.
The 2024 Hero World Challenge field is headlined by the tournament’s defending champion and world No.1 Scottie Scheffler. The reigning FedExCup champion will enter the event after a three-month break following his appearance at the Tour Championship in August. The 28-year-old is also deemed a favorite to defend the title as he has won seven of 19 events in the 2024 PGA Tour season.
It is pertinent to note that World No.2 Xander Schauffele, No.3 Rory McIlroy and No.4 Collin Morikawa will not partake in the competition.
World No.5 Ludvig Aberg will follow Scheffler as the second highest-ranked player on the event’s field. The Swedish golfer will be making his debut in the competition. He will be followed by victorious United States Presidents Cup team star and World No.6 Wyndham Clark on the field.
Apart from Aberg, Henley, Robert MacIntyre, Aaron Rai, Matthieu Pavon, Akshay Bhatia, and Nick Dunlap will also make their tournament debuts in the Bahamas in December.
Interestingly, the 2024 Hero World Challenge field will feature nine members of the victorious US Presidents Cup squad, including Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, Keegan Bradley, Russell Henley, Sam Burns, Brian Harman and Tony Finau. Notably, Sungjae Im, Tom Kim and Jason Day from the International team will also compete.
Day, Dunlap, and Justin Thomas are three golfers who entered the PGA Tour-sanctioned 20-man field on tournament exemption. Meanwhile, event host Woods won’t be on the playing field this year. The ace golfer announced on Nov. 25 that he would not be playing as he continues to be in rehab due to his back surgery.
