The Masters is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments. The event is played at the Augusta National Golf Course and has a very long history.

This year's tournament will start with the opening round on Thursday, April 6, and will continue until Sunday, April 9. Golf enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the tournament.

Top 5 performances in the history of the Masters

1) Bryson Nelson birdie-eagle

Bryson Nelson dominated the golf course during his time. He won the Masters in 1937 after defeating Texans native Ralph Guldahl by a margin of six strokes.

Nelson made birdies and eagles on the 12th and 13th holes of Augusta National to register his lead and finally win the prestigious green jacket. His fellow golfer Ralph struggled at both holes and made a double bogey and a bogey, while Nelson shocked everyone with his performance.

His miraculous performance led the officials to name the bridge on the 13th hole of Augusta as Nelson bridge.


2) Gary Player

Gary Player became the first international golfer to win the Masters. He has won three Masters in his career. The South African native defeated legendary golfer Arnold Palmer to win the first Masters of his career.

Palmer took the lead after the first round and extended it to the second round alongside Gary Player. In the third round, Player maintained his lead while Arnold slipped down to second position and in the final, Gary registered a one-stroke victory over Palmer and Charles Coe.


3) Jack Nicklaus's six under par 30 shot

In the final round of the 1986 Masters, Jack Nicklaus made a six-under-par 30 on the back nine holes to win the sixth green jacket of his career. His performance at the 1986 Masters was worth watching.

Nicklaus made three consecutive birdies on the 9th, 10th, and 11th holes and bogeyed it on the 11th. He birdied the 13th hole followed by a par-4 on the next hole.

With an eagle on the 15th and two birdies on the next two holes, Nicklaus won the title by one shot.


4) Tiger Woods at the 1997 Masters

Tiger Woods won his first Masters within a year of turning pro by 12 strokes. He defeated Tom Kite by a dozen strokes. Woods finished with a scoring deficit of 18 and Kite at just under 6.

Woods started the tournament with a score of 70 and then made 66, 65, and 69 to wrap it up at a total of 270. The second finished Tom Kite played four rounds of 77, 69, 66, and 70.


5) Gary Player at the 1978 Masters

The 1978 Masters finale was unexpected and unpredictable. Gary Player came from nowhere to clinch the trophy. He was in 10th place after the third round with a scoring deficit of 3. Hubert Green was leading the tournament by seven strokes.

However, everything changed in the final round when Player sank nine birdies and a bogey to win the title. While Green could only make four birdies in addition to four bogeys and slipped down to second position.

It was one of the best performances by any golfer at The Masters.
