The 2024 John Deere Classic enters its second round on Friday, July 5. The customary cut line will be made at the completion of the first 36 holes, eliminating everyone behind the first 65 players (plus ties).

The afternoon wave has not yet started in the second round of the John Deere Classic, but it is already predicted that the cut line will be drawn at 4 under (-4).

This forecast is a little higher than usual cut line scores over the last five years. Here are the scores for the cut at the John Deere Classic from 2018 to 2023 (the event was not held in 2020):

  • 2023: 3 under
  • 2022: 2 under
  • 2021: 3 under
  • 2019: 2 under
  • 2018: 2 under

If the cut line is drawn at 4 under as projected, several top players could have difficulties overcoming it.

Jordan Spieth currently has a score of 2 under, although he has not yet started his performance during the second round. Nick Dunlap is in a much more compromised situation, with his score on 3 under through 17th.

2018 John Deere Classic champion Michael Kim has a score of 1 under but is yet to start his round. Major champion and PGA Tour veteran Stewart Cink is yet to start his round as well, but with a score of 3 under.

What's happening in the second round of the John Deere Classic?

CT Pan is having the best second round at the John Deere Classic so far, with a score of 8 under through 17th. The Taiwanese has one eagle and six birdies with no bogeys and is temporarily leading the event with a score of 14 under.

Aaron Rai is also putting on a great performance at TPC Deere Run, following his runner-up finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week. Rai has made seven birdies with no bogeys during the second round and currently sits second, one stroke behind Pan.

Kevin Yu, another Taiwanese in the field, finished Round 2 with 10 birdies and two bogeys (8 under). He has climbed 60 places on the leaderboard to T7, with the day's play still to be completed.

At the other end is Sami Valimaki, who finished second in the first round. On Friday however, Valimaki scored 1-over 72, which dropped him more than 10 places on the leaderboard.

Hayden Springer, the tournament leader after 18 holes, has not started his second-round performance yet. His 12 under score keeps him temporarily tied for third place.

Springer has a 2:55 pm (Eastern Time) tee time on the 10th hole, sharing the group with Zencheng Dou and Blake Hathcoat. The first-round leader will be among those who will close the day, with only two other groups will start on hole 10 after him.
