Rory McIlroy will look to revive his performance at the upcoming Major tournament. The Masters 2025 winner will tee up at the Oakmont Country Club next week.
The Northern Irish golfer made his first appearance since the 2025 PGA Championship at the ongoing RBC Canadian Open. Unfortunately, Rory McIlroy failed to make the cut at the Ontario event, after carding a nine-over par total score. McIlroy skipped two events before the tournament this week, the Charles Schwab Challenge and the signature event, the Memorial Tournament.

The 2025 Masters champion shot a one-over par 71 in the first round after carding several bogies. In the second round, faltered further to shoot two double bogies and three bogies to take his score to eight-over par 78.
Following this week's disappointment, Rory McIlroy will make his 17th appearance at the 2025 U.S Open scheduled to be held from June 12 to 15.
During the press conference at TPC Toronto after his second at the RBC Canadian Open, McIlroy even shared his plans to improve his game for the third Major of the year.
The 36-year-old golfer has played 10 PGA Tour events this season, out of which he has won three titles- AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Players Championship, and the Masters tournament. While he has had an outstanding season overall, McIlroy's performance has dipped over his last two events, which includes the PGA Championship. He finished in a tie for 47th at the Quail Hollow event.
Rory McIlroy shares his practice plans ahead of the 2025 U.S Open
Rory McIlroy has finished as the runner-up at the last two editions of the Major event. However, his best outcome across the 16 appearances was in 2011 when he won the U.S Open, marking the first Major win of his career.

After his early exit from the RBC Canadian Open, the Northern Irishman shared his thoughts on his mistakes over the week and the improvements needed for the upcoming Major tournament. When he was asked about his concerns for next week, McIlroy stated (via ASAP Sports):
"Obviously going to Oakmont next week, what you need to do more than anything else there is hit fairways. Still sort of searching for the sort of missing piece off the tee."
McIlroy also added:
"Obviously for me, when I get that part of the game clicking, then everything falls into place for me. Right now that isn't. Yeah, that's a concern going into next week."
Rory McIlroy, whose driver was deemed non-conforming ahead of the 2025 PGA Championship, has been experimenting with new drivers at events since. During the interview, he mentioned his trial of the 44-inch driver for the Ontario event and pointed out the downsides of the same for him.
McIlroy also shared that he would be testing out a few drivers over the weekend to check what works for him.
