The Denver Broncos became the Super Bowl 50 champions today with a convincing 24-10 win over Carolina Panthers. It’s the Broncos’ third Super Bowl win and their first in nearly twenty years.
The Broncos' last appearance in the Super Bowl finals was back in 2014 at Super Bowl XLVIII in which they lost to the Seattle Seahawks. The Panthers, however, were making their first Super Bowl final appearance in over a decade.
Peyton Manning, who won his second championship ring in Ssalinas, California, led the Broncos from the front as they utterly dominated the Panthers with an emphasis on strong defense. Linebacker Von Miller, who has repeatedly been described as ‘special’, starred in his team's victory today with defensive plays and moves fans have not seen since he was drafted by the Broncos back in 2011.
Miller and DeMarcus Wade were instrumental in choking the Panthers as the latter struggled to get beyond Denver’s impenetrable defense. Even Cam Newton, this season's Most Valuable Player, often found himself completely restricted and unable to influence the game in his team's favour.
Brandon McManus also did well for the Broncos capitalising successfully to score three field goals and a point. He was also the scorer of Denver’s first points, converting a 34-yard field goal early in the game.
Superstar and NFL legend, Manning, completed 13 of 23 passes and starred in what was likely his final Super Bowl appearance. The 39-year-old has long struggled with neck and various other injuries and is expected to call time on his career post the conclusion of the season.
