Churchill Brothers score eight goals against Margao SC

I-League champions Churchill Brothers SC scored an impressive 8-0 win against Margao SC in their round seven match of the Goa Pro League at the Duler ground in Mapusa on Wednesday afternoon.

With the overcast September sky hovering over Mapusa, rain was expected at the artificial turf ground but it held back and the goals started raining with T. Bineesh Balan scoring within 11 seconds, while in the 9th minute he added one more to his account when he found himself at the end of a hopeful long ball from Hugo Machado. The on rushing Margao SC goalkeeper tried to head the ball as he was outside his box but he misjudged it and it fell for Bineesh who calmly slotted home.

With Margao SC unable to control the midfield, the goals kept coming for Churchill Brothers. Jaison Vales scored for the Red Machines in the 13th minute when he received a pass from Alesh Sawant, rounded the goalkeeper and placed the ball inside the net. Charles Miranda scored in the 27th minute to make it 4-0 in favour of the Red Machines, Bineesh had played the ball to him. Churchill Brothers, Goa went into the break with a healthy 4-0 lead.

The second half saw more goals being scored and in the 50th minute Jaison Vales got on the score-sheet again, when he placed the ball into the right hand corner of the Margao SC goal after being played through by the Red Machines’ Portuguese midfielder Hugo Machado. Churchill Brothers coach Mariano Dias decided to take off his number one goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya in the 54th minute and handed Lalit Thapa his first competitive game of this season.

Micky Fernandes joined the goal feast in the 68th minute when he scored after receiving a long pass from T. Bineesh Balan. Two more goals were scored by Churchill Brothers in the last quarter of the match when Bineesh Balan completed his hat-trick in the 83rd minute with a calm finish past Margao goalkeeper Rahul Yadav, and under-20 player Alesh Sawant scored a peach of a goal when he took a left-footed shot from the edge of the box which crashed into the top left corner of the Margao SC goal.

The match ended 8-0 in favour of Churchill Brothers, who are on 17 points from seven matches; while Margao suffered their seventh heavy defeat and stay pointless.
