Honduras World Cupper and ex-Liverpool striker also on East Bengal’s marquee foreigner shortlist

Edder Delgado

East Bengal are in advanced talks with New Zealand World Cupper Leo Bertos for their marquee foreigner slot but just in case they fail to sign the 32-year-old Kiwi there are two other backup options.

Sportskeeda learnt that the two other names are Honduras international Edder Delgado and former Liverpool striker Nathan Eccleston.

27-year-old Delgado was late a replacement for Arnold Peralta in Honduras’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad but he didn’t make any appearance in Brazil. The midfielder has been capped 26 times at senior international level and was also a member of Honduras’ 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad.

Delgao also represented Honduras U-23 team in the 2008 Olympics and has spent his entire professional career at Honduras club Real Espana.

23-year-old forward Eccleston started his youth career at Bury FC before moving to Liverpool. Eccleston came through Liverpool’s youth system and made two appearances in the English Premier League for the Reds.

During his time at Liverpool he also had loan spells in the third tier of English football. After leaving Anfield in 2012 he played for several clubs in either the second or third tier. He was last contracted to Blackpool but is currently a free agent.

Bertos is the favourite to join the red-and-gold brigade and has already been offered a contract but Delgado and Eccleston remain on the radar for now.
