Since the Mumbai side could not lure Sunil Chhetri to leave Bengaluru and join his ISL side, the team management decided to spend 65 lakhs on former Mohun Bagan forward, Balwant Singh. The 30-year-old has not played in the ISL in the past two years and last played for Chennaiyin FC in 2015.

With just 1 goal in this competition, Mumbai City took a big gamble on signing a rather unproven quantity in the form of Balwant Singh. He will be needed to replicate Chhetri's form for Mumbai which in itself is a gigantic task. Singh has not been in the best of form recently and the pressure of being the club's main goalscorer might prove to be a bit too much for the Hoshiarpur man.
