The valiant Jamshedpur FC managed to buckle up and put Mumbai City FC fans to silence as they scored once in each half to defeat the 'Mumbaikars' at home. In what seemed to be an effortless victory, Jamshedpur scored through Mario Arques in the 28th minute while Pablo Morgado put the game to rest in the injury time.

The last year's debutants, who finished 5th narrowly missing the playoffs, put up a balanced performance to gain 3 points. And with the help of their new coach, have set their goals high with the win.

Let us now look at the five talking points from the game.

#5 Goian impresses but ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline

The captain did all things right from the start. The defender blocked Tiri’s attack at the far post as he directed the header towards the goal, but Goian managed to hit it wide to save his team from a second goal. Goian’s experience counted as he blocked more moves from Jamshedpur FC going hard on Mumbai.

Another brilliant tackle from Lucian on Jerry proved worthwhile as he won the ball from what could’ve been a possible goal.

Not only in the defence but even in attack, Goian missed a couple of chances to get his side on level terms. In a valiant effort, Sanju Pradhan sent a ball to Goian but he lost the balance as the strike hit the side netting.

#4 Mumbai City FC caught in the offside trap

Struck by a goal in the 28th minute, Mumbai tried their level best to put up a performance to keep the Jamshedpur FC defence lines on their toes and even managed to score twice through, however, the goals were rightfully judged offside.

The shrewd Jamshedpur FC defence held on their 1-goal advantage and the side still managed to have an upper hand with the dominating play from the midfield.

Mumbai City FC were unlucky as they failed to capitalise on the chances before Jamshedpur FC drove the final nail into the coffin in the dying minutes.

#3 Jerry Mawihmingthanga steals the show

The youngster was a show stealer as he ran havoc in the rival defence with constant runs, breaking the Mumbai FC wall time and again. Deservingly, Jerry was honoured with the hero of the match award. Jerry, who had scored the fastest goal in ISL last season, showed his determination and will to perform even better this season.

If it is anyone who can be called the emerging player, it has to be Jerry. In a defence-splitting pass, Jerry sent in the ball from the right flank to Calvo who sent it to Summet but the latter shot it above the crossbar.

#2 Mumbai defensively good, but not at their best

With the crowd roaring in the Mumbai Football Arena, it was the ‘Men of Steel’ that stole the show with their intense attacking play and finesse with the ball. Struck in the early quarter of the match, Mumbai City FC didn’t give up and tried to get back into the game trying to make amends for their mistakes.

They had a couple of chances but failed to capitalise on them in the first half. The second half, however, saw a better Mumbai side. But even though they managed to break the Jamshedpur defence, they couldn’t get on the score sheet. Mumbai were defensively at their best as they managed to hold off the rivals before they could kill the game.

#1 A deserving victory for Jamshedpur FC

The Men of Steel dominated the game with a 53 percent ball possession and even though Mumbai City FC had more shots towards the rival goal, Jamshedpur FC had their accuracy on target and managed to get 2 goals in the 5 shots on target.

The match started on a cagey not but Jamshedpur FC took it all step by step. Impressing their fans with a classy performance what makes it even more special is that they won it on the road. The hosts looked rusty and didn’t gel well to bring down the rival side.
