Arrow McLaren driver Pato O'Ward recently spoke about NASCAR and fellow Mexican driver Daniel Suarez's victory in Mexico. In line with this, the 26-year-old also spoke about pushing to get Mexico as one of the tracks for IndyCar.
Daniel Suarez recently won at this home race in Mexico at the NASCAR Xfinity Series. O'Ward congratulated his fellow Mexican compatriot for the victory. The Arrow McLaren driver further spoke about how the two drivers grew up together at the same track, and he also spoke about getting an IndyCar Grand Prix in Mexico.
While talking during the press conference post the Bommarito Automotive Group 500. O'Ward was questioned about Suarez's race and if he would like to race at the track. He replied by saying (via Bob Pockrass on X)
"And I just, I saw a tweet that Daniel wanted an xfinity which I was super happy for him. I grew up with him in the same Hometown. Same track where things started for us both. So yeah, I think it's fantastic for him and yeah, we would we would love to go there. I think it would be fantastic to have IndyCar there. And yeah, we're sure as hell are going to try and pack the whole place up"
Pato O'Ward has often pushed to secure a race at his home track. However, the efforts haven't yielded any concrete results, as Penske Entertainment CEO Mark Miles once stated that O'Ward, along with the IndyCar series, is not that famous in Mexico. The Arrow McLaren driver has continuously received support from his former teammates and rivals when it came to this matter.
As for Pato O'Ward's season so far, it is off to a decent start; he managed to claim pole position at the Thermal Club Grand Prix held on March 23 and finished the race in second place. At the recently held Bommarito Automotive Group 500, he qualified in third spot and finished the race in second.
When Pato O'Ward spoke out about his time at Red Bull
Arrow McLaren's Pato O'Ward once spoke about his time at Formula One's Red Bull team. He spoke about his short time on the team.
Prior to joining Arrow McLaren and McLaren's developmental team, O'Ward was contracted to Red Bull, and he hoped to get an F1 drive with the team. However, all of this changed once the team got the four-time Formula One Champion Max Verstappen. The Mexican driver ended up parting ways with the team just after six months of joining.
In a 2022 interview with ESPN, he reflected on his time at the team. He said,
"Red Bull couldn't use me. I appreciated that [being released so I could join Arrow McLaren]. The contract I signed for Red Bull was for Formula One, nothing else."
The move could further not materialize as Pato O'Ward required an FIA super license, which was not possible for him as he struggled during his Super Formula and Formula 2 days.
