Somerset are into the finals of T20 Blast 2024 where they will be trying to defend their title. Who will be their opponents? A remarkable turnaround from 7/3 inside the third over to chasing down 154 in the 19th over from the defending champions Somerset who march into the finals for the second consecutive time after having won the whole thing last year.

Daniel Worrall made the new ball talk and had Somerset in all sorts of trouble in combination with Tom Curran removing three top-order batters within the first three overs of the run chase. It looked for all money that Surrey were well on their way to a final and a shot at the T20 Blast having last won it way back in 2003 when the competition started.

Two men, though had other ideas. 20-yer old James Rew and the Protean Sean Dickson got together at the crease and started what was a record partnership on the finals day in the competition's history. They weathered the storm early on against the pacers and got their eyes in. As the field opened, the runs started coming much more freely as both the batters started playing freely.

But, the turning point came in the 9th over when Dan Lawrence was hit for 17 in an over and then a couple of overs later leggie Cameron Steel was smoked for 18 as well completely flipping the momentum in Somerset's favor. From there on, it was a cruise for Somerset who got their in the end with 8 balls to spare. Dickson did get out in the 19th over after a 144-run stand but it was too late for anything as skipper Lewis Gregory walked out and quite fittingly hit the winning runs for Somerset.

18.5 Jordan Clark to Lewis Gregory, SOMERSET ARE IN THE FINAL! Full toss on off-stump and above waist height. Gregory backs away and tries to slap it over cover but the pace on the ball makes it deflect off the thick outside edge, over short third man for a maximum! With that, Somerset's title defense stays alive and it's apt that their captain finishes it off.

18.4 Jordan Clark to Lewis Gregory, yorker again on middle-stump. Gregory makes room and knocks it to the cover fielder for no run.

It is a pity that this partnership has come to an end but it finally has as the 144-run stand is broken and Dickson departs after playing a match winning knock of 78 runs.

18.3 Jordan Clark to Sean Dickson, WICKET! IS THERE SOME LIFE LEFT OR WHAT? Full around off-stump. Dickson tried to smack this over long-off from the crease but did not middle it. It took the top edge and went over the in-field. But it landed in the safe hands of deep point as well.
