Bengal beat Assam by an innings and 162 runs, pocket seven points!
The smiles are back at last for Bengal and their fans with last year's runners-up fetching their first win of this Ranji Trophy season. Assam were routed for 103 in the first innings and the follow-on was duly enforced. Suraj Jaiswal then wreaked havoc to finish with 6/43 as Assam were skittled out for a paltry 140. Riyan Parag was absent hurt in both innings and this win has put Bengal's campaign back on track after a difficult start to the tournament.

A rare instance this Ranji Trophy season but Bengal are in a dominant position at the end of Day 2 in Guwahati. Having piled up 405 on the board thanks to Karan Lal and Suraj Jaiswal scoring 52 each - apart from Anustup Majumdar's 124 and Manoj Tiwary's 100 - the bowlers then got on a rampage to reduce the Assam batting lineup to 99/8. While Denish Das scored 50 and Saahil Jain is currently batting on 36, skipper Riyan Parag is yet to bat owing to an injury picked up while fielding. Given the cloud hanging over his participation with the bat, Assam need more than a miracle to put themselves back in the game.

Assam pinned Bengal to the mat having opted to bowl first in Guwahati, reducing last year's runners-up to 57/4. But then, it was those two crisis men again who were at it for Bengal as Anustup Majumdar (120*) and skipper Manoj Tiwary (68*) shared an unbeaten stand of 185 to put the visitors on top of the contest. With Abhishek Porel still to come, there is a good opportunity for Bengal to bat Assam out of the game before letting their bowlers take over. Yet to taste victory this season, this is a must-win game for the team as they look to max out as many points as possible with a win over the next few days.
