Right then! India started their Test season on a winning note and climb to the third spot in the WTC points table. The second test isn't too far away and there would be some selection dilemma ahead if Rohit Sharma gets fit to play in Dhaka. Who would they leave out? Well, we have enough time to scratch our heads to think about that, but now, if you are hungry for more cricketing action, Australian bowlers are dismantling South Africa in the second innings. Catch the live updates here. For now, it's time to end the coverage as this is Pragadeesh and Soorya signing off
KL Rahul (India captain): Yeah, we've been here for a while. The ODI series didn't go our way. It's a hard-fought test match, we have to work hard to win this match and the way we did is great. The pitch did flatten out but it didn't worry us. There wasn't much on the pitch but their openers batted well. We didn't play test cricket for a while and we know nothing comes easy. Happy to start our Test season on a winning note. (On Pujara) He batted well in the first innings. To a position where we were to get 200+ was great. Shreyas Iyer batted well and Rishabh Pant too with his counter-attacking innings and that's how he plays. Subhuman and Puji utilized the opportunities and got hundreds. Very pleasing with the way we bowled, the energy is high. The pitch wasn't assisting but the bowlers did generate something. We won the Test match and I am happy, so we will think about what we need to do in the second match
Kuldeep Yadav is the Player of the Match for his match haul of 8/113. Here's what he has to say: To be very honest, I'm happy with my performance both with the bat and the ball. The first innings it was a bit quicker than the second innings. The ball was coming on nice. The second innings, it was a bit challenging so I was trying to bowl a bit quicker. (What gives a wrist-spinner an advantage?) More revs on the ball makes it more challenging for a batter to step down and go for the big ones. More revs and plenty of variations as well makes it difficult for the batters to pick. I was looking to vary the pace and use my variations. This year I just worked on my rhythm. I tried to be more aggressive in my rhythm. (Best figures for an Indian in Bangladesh) It's good to be at the top and very happy with that.
Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh Captain): I thought it was a really good wicket to bat on. We didn't bat well. Playing after 5-6 months wasn't ideal but that's not an excuse for the way we batted in the first innings. We should give a lot of credit to India for the way they bowled. They bowled in partnerships and bowled the right areas. (On Zakir Hasan) He has been scoring a lot of runs in domestic cricket. That's why the selectors picked him and he repaid that faith. All credits goes to Zakir for the way he played. We have to play well all five days if we have to win a Test. We can't just bowl or bat well in one innings and not in another innings. We have to play well all game if we are to get a result against India who are one of the top-ranked Test teams.
India won by 188 runs
India 404-10 & 258-2 d Bangladesh 150-10 & 324-10
Handshakes all around as India have outclassed Bangladesh to take a 1-0 lead in the series. It wasn't an easy surface for the bowlers even on the fifth day but India did the damage with the ball yesterday to make things easier in the first hour today. Shakib fired on all cylinders but he didn't get any support at the other end. It was an all-or-nothing approach from the Bangladesh skipper early on as he targeted Axar Patel and smashed a couple of maximums, but once Mehidy got out to a loose shot, Shakib upped his aggressive intent further, However, the inevitable happened as Kuldeep Yadav bamboozled Shakib instantly after the bowling change and Axar did the clean-up act by dismissing Taijul Islam
After a first-innings batting failure, It was indeed a brilliant effort from Bangladesh as Shanto and Hasan struck a 124-run partnership but Axar and Kuldeep ran through the middle order to put Bangladesh in a spot of bother. Hasan brought up his maiden Test century but once he became Ashwin's first scalp in the match, things became easy-peasy for the visitors. Shakib showed a lot of intent and he was offering Bangladesh a glimmer of hope, heading towards the final day. However, Siraj got rid of Mehidy before Kuldeep Yadav brought Shakib's entertaining innings to an end. That turned out to be the final nail in the coffin
India, on the other hand, had some struggles with the bat in the first hour of Day 1 but since then, they didn't let Bangladesh to dominate proceedings in the middle. After missing out on a well-deserved hundred in the first innings, Pujara brought up his 19th Test century, while Shubhman Gill too scored his maiden Test ton as the duo helped India to set a massive total on the board. On the bowling front, it was a big surprise that Ashwin ended up getting just a solitary wicket but Kuldeep and Axar were sensational in both innings as the duo turned out to be Bangladesh batters' nightmare throughout the match
113.2 Axar Patel to Taijul Islam, CLEANS HIM UP! THAT IS THAT! Good length delivery fired in around the off stump as it skids on quick. Taijul hangs back but is a week late into bringing his bat down. Not only that, he also plays way inside the line of it as it goes on to knock the top of off stump and uproot it. As simple as that and India go 1-0 up with a massive 188-run victory! Taijul Islam b Axar Patel 4 (15b, 0x4, 0x6)
113.1 Axar Patel to Taijul Islam, length delivery around the off stump. Taijul gets forward from his crease to pat it back to the bowler
Axar to continue. Can he do the clean-up act?

112.6 Kuldeep Yadav to Khaled Ahmed, OFF THE PADS! Turns back in off a full length on middle stump as it turns back in with a bit of extra bounce. Khaled doesn't connect as he pokes half-forward before it lobs off the pad towards short leg. Barely a murmur of an appeal from the bowler!
Khaled Ahmed, RHB, walks in at no.11
Change of angle from Kuldeep and here comes another wicket. Soft dismissal and India are one wicket away now
112.5 Kuldeep Yadav to Ebadot Hossain, OUT! The change of angle does the trick! Kuldeep goes around the wicket and gets a back of a length delivery to turn back in sharply from outside the off stump. Keeps a touch low too as Ebadot hangs back and offers a slightly angled bat, only for the ball to fly quickly off the inner splice to Shreyas Iyer who pouches a good catch at short leg. It was not at all easy, mind you. It never is at that position but he made it look far easier than it was. India are just one wicket away from the series lead now! Ebadot Hossain c Shreyas Iyer b Kuldeep Yadav 0 (5b, 0x4, 0x6)
112.4 Kuldeep Yadav to Ebadot Hossain, OOH! Turns back in off a full length around the off stump as Ebadot pokes down the original line. Lobs directly off his pads before short leg manages to pouch it over his head
112.3 Kuldeep Yadav to Ebadot Hossain, tossed up full outside the off stump. Turns back in a touch as Ebadot presses forward into a solid poke to defend
112.2 Kuldeep Yadav to Ebadot Hossain, googly on a back of a length radar around off stump. Skids on as Ebadot camps deep in the crease and knocks it into the off-side
112.1 Kuldeep Yadav to Ebadot Hossain, quick around the off stump on a full length. Ebadot pokes forward and pats it past silly point
A slip, leg slip, silly point and short leg in place
After Shakib's dismissal, we are back to a proper Test match mode

111.6 Axar Patel to Taijul Islam, turns off a full length on leg stump as Taijul gets half-forward looking to work it into the leg-side. Spins down to the keeper though
111.5 Axar Patel to Taijul Islam, shortens his length outside off stump. Takes a bit of turn with some extra bounce as Taijul hangs back and steers it late past backward point for a couple of runs into the deep
