That will be all then from this contest in the LPL 2021. Each team has now played at least one game and will be keen on getting early points to the maximum extent over the next few days. A double-header is in store tomorrow with the Jaffna Kings facing off against the Dambulla Giants first up before the Kandy Warriors take on the Galle Gladiators at the same venue later in the evening. Do join us for our coverage of those games while keeping yourselves up to date with all the other cricketing action from across the globe right here on Sportskeeda. Thank you so much for tuning into our coverage of this clash, one which we hope you enjoyed as much as we did bringing to you. On behalf of my friend and co-commentator Prakhar Sachdeo, this is Sooryanarayanan Sesha humbly reminding you to mask up and get yourselves vaccinated in case you haven't already. Goodnight and take care!
Dhananjaya de Silva (Colombo Stars Captain and Player of the Match): It was tough from the beginning. Tom and Pathum tried well but we couldn't get the best start. Our motto was to get the win. I decided to bowl early on going by the nature of the wicket. The bowlers bowled really well - even the pacers, Naveen, Dushmantha and everybody chipped in. We had to get the combination right and the overseas players have fit well into the team. Angelo's coming in after this game I think.
We are ready for the Presentation ceremony!

Wiese wins the Power Hitter award.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa (Galle Gladiators Captain): When we saw the wicket we felt the score of 135 would be enough but we were well short. I am proud of the effort. Special mention of Noor Ahmad. It is always good to learn from mistakes.

Stars' skipper Dhananjaya de Silva is the Player of the Match.
It was, but inevitable, that the Stars would get these runs. That they made heavy work of it though was something that wasn't expected, going by the big names in their batting lineup.

Four wickets in the Powerplay certainly threw more than a spanner into the works of the chase. This, despite a confident start from Tom Banton in particular as the runs came at a brisk pace for the Stars. Nuwan Thushara led the way with some vital blows and with the fielders taking every catching opportunity coming their way, they were certainly up for a scrap. Some ordinary shot selection didn't help the Stars' cause of getting a partnership going either.

The scenario demanded a calm head to take control of the game and the Stars had two of them in the form of Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal. The experienced Sri Lankan internationals took their time in nudging the ball around and resorted to percentage cricket with the spinners getting the ball to grip and turn. de Silva's departure after he was trapped in front though broke open the contest again and gave the Gladiators a smidgen of hope.

That was when David Wiese laid all hopes of the Gladiators to rest with two expansive blows over the fence to bring the equation down to 21 off the last 5 overs. Wiese could not finish the job but Chandimal ensured that he held up and end and saw the team through to the finish line without further hiccups. The Stars have the two points on the board and in the end, all's well that ends well for them.

The Gladiators can be pleased with their bowling and fielding efforts, defending a modest total. Nuwan Thushara was excellent in the Powerplay and certainly seems one to keep an eye out for. Noor Ahmad was tidy, as were Samit Patel and Mohammad Hafeez and regular wickets continued to keep the Galle side in contention. Alas though, they just did not have enough runs to play with and it was bound to come back and hurt them at some stage of their defense, which is exactly how things transpired.
There you go! It was a huff and a puff but eventually, Dinesh Chandimal has held his nerve beautifully under pressure to seal the deal for his side. Colombo Stars beat Galle Gladiators by 4 wickets with 15 deliveries to spare!
17.3 Nuwan Thushara to Dinesh Chandimal, FOUR AND A WIN FOR COLOMBO STARS! Fullish ball on off-stump, Chandimal plays a handsome drive through cover and gets his team over the line.
Just one more boundary away now!
17.2 Nuwan Thushara to Dinesh Chandimal, FOUR! Slow short ball wide of off-stump, Chandimal looks to evade from the ball, the ball takes a thick outside edge and runs down to third-man for a boundary.
17.1 Nuwan Thushara to Seekkuge Prasanna, WIDE! Thushara misses his yorker and spills the ball down the leg side, the keeper puts a dive to stop the ball but Prasanna takes a single.
17.1 Nuwan Thushara to Seekkuge Prasanna, no run, yorker on middle and leg, the ball raps on the pads, the keeper down well to stop the ball.
Nuwan Thushara [2-0-16-2] is back into the attack. He will bowl over the wicket.

Right then. It's down to just 10 runs needed now for the Stars to wrap up this contest and Seekkuge Prasanna is someone who can wield the willow wild and wrap it up with two big hits. Will he take that route though or just settle for nudging it around?

NOT AGAIN SURELY? A massive, massive wicket again in the form of David Wiese and that's a really well-judged catch in the deep by Noor Ahmad. This game is not over yet, it seems!
16.1 Pulina Tharanga to David Wiese, WICKET! CAUGHT! WIESE DEPARTS! Fullish ball wide of off-stump, Wiese thumps the ball over cover but the ball goes straight into the hands of Noor Ahmad at deep cover region.
