Commentary

Cyprus Eagles beat Nicosia Tigers by 7 wickets

Right then, settle down, get your breaths back. A game that looked like a walk in the park for Eagles at the halfway stage turns into an instant thriller by the end of it. If one has to gauge the performance of two teams, it could aptly be described as patchy.

Both sides bowled bountiful of extras, dropped sitters, and missed some ludicrous runouts and yet it was Tigers that came out of it on the losing side. Perhaps, two big drops in the penultimate over proved just a tad bit costly for them.

Chasing 95, Eagles were not off to the best of starts as Jawad Shah departed in the first over itself on the paltry score of 4. However, it was his partner Srinivas Angarekkala (41* off 29) that ensured that Eagles started their campaign off with a win.

The dasher was all over the Tigers bowlers and smashed them around the park by collecting 6 sumptuous boundaries and a cheeky six, which incidentally was the winning shot.

Wicketkeeper Naseer Ahmed provided him good support, although it is pertinent ton note that Ahmed got as many as three reprieves when the Tigers fielders jumbled up the runout chances. It didn't hep the Tigers cause that they bowled 18 extras and allowed the opposition to breathe free in a tight chase.

All in all, it was another heartbreak for Tigers who have now lost two close games in the last two nights. They will have a chance later in the night to restore the parity as a reverse fixture of this game is played.
