So, that will be it from this match at the Zayed Stadium! We have a couple more matches to go today and the next one starts in a few minutes, so, do make sure to catch up with that by switching tabs. This is Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Rovman Powell (Delhi Bulls captain): The guys played a really good match today. It looks easy but isn't actually. Anything over 120 is a tough total to chase down but we decided to stay positive right from the start. It is quite natural for West Indian batters to have the power, we definitely back ourselves to clear the ropes. We have a good team, the support staff is pretty experienced in this format.
Quinton de Kock has been adjudged the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Quinton de Kock: It was a good wicket, pretty flat and so, run scoring got easy! I was unsure about how to go about it but the guys in the team told me to go hard from ball one. But, I just took a couple of balls and then decided to go hard. Not a lot was discussed in the dressing room at the halfway stage. It was all about going for the runs and continuing the big hitting.
Time for the post-match presentation!
Delhi Bulls beat Deccan Gladiators by 9 wickets with 9 balls to spare!
Quinton de Kock 50* (26) | Naveen-Ul-Haq - 1/28 (2) Tom Kohler-Cadmore 42 (21) | Luke Wood - 1/7 (1)
What an amazing batting display it was from three quality ball-strikers in this innings! Quinton de Kock, fresh from a tremendous ODI World Cup, looked a million dollars today playing as if there was not getting him out. He played shots all around the ground with a lot of ease and showed both touch and power skills to bamboozle the bowlers!
Johnson Charles, who came in as an Impact Sub for Fazalhaq Farooqi, batted the best! He did muscle a few towards the on-side but there were some powerful shots through the off-side as well, which shows just how good he can be on both sides of the wicket. But the best part about his batting was the cheekiness in it! Something we don't quite associate with him. The deft touches and the innovativeness in his batting shone through.
Skipper Rovman Powell was as good as he could get with his brute force! He muscled quite a few for fours and sixes and got the job done well within ten overs!
The bowling from the Deccan Gladiators was average to say the least. All of them took a tap and the only one who bowled decently did not bowl his second over! Luke Wood went for only 7 runs taking a wicket but did not get to bowl another over.
So, Delhi Bulls begin their campaign in flourishing fashion with a big win and the Gladiators suffer their first loss in their second game.
8.3 Fabian Allen to Rovman Powell, SIX RUNS! DELHI BULLS COMPLETE A THUMPING VICTORY! Length ball on off-stump. Powell loses shape in trying to hammer it but the power behind it carries it over long-off for half-a-dozen!
8.2 Fabian Allen to Quinton de Kock, full on the pads. De Kock hoicks to the deep mid-wicket for a single and brings up his fifty!
8.1 Fabian Allen to Rovman Powell, round the wicket, full on the pads. Clipped around to the short fine-leg region for a single here.
