No cricket match is over until the last ball is bowled they say, and we have a contest that has completely justified the statement. The Delhi Capitals have imploded and man what an implosion it has been!! They have bottled up the chase big time and eventually fell 1 run short to hand UP Warriors a win that did not seem possible for a large part of the match.
So, where do we start? Probably with the player of the match, Deepti Sharma, who turned the match on its head with a game-changing 19th over in which she got 3 wickets and sent the jitters among the Delhi Capitals. She also got a hat-trick and became the first Indian to do so in a WPL match.
The Delhi Capitals needed 10 off the final over and Healy tossed the ball for the first time in the match to Grace Harris. The first ball was dropped at the boundary and it went for a six. The Delhi Capitals should have got across the line from there but Grace Harris and UP Warriors held their nerves and they got 3 wickets in the next 4 deliveries to leave the Capitals shell-shocked.
Delhi Capitals really had no business losing this game, they were cruising in the 14th over on 93 with Meg Lanning looking in complete control on 60. That was when it all started to change as Deepti trapped Lanning in front. After that too, they were 124/4 at one point and they shot themselves in the foot to be bowled out for 138 losing their last 6 wickets for just 14 runs in the space of 11 deliveries.
The bowling effort as well as the fielding effort from the UP Warriors was one of a cohesive unit. Deepti Sharma bagged 4 wickets but Grace Harris deserves a special mention for her last over in which she got 2 wickets to go with a run-out. Young Saima Thakor also picked up a couple of crucial wickets and was involved in a heated battle with Shafali Verma right at the beginning of the chase where she managed to get the better off the Capitals' opener.
Earlier in the first innings, it was the Deepti Sharma show with the bat as well for the UP Warriors. She walked in at the fall off the first wicket in the second over and was dismissed right at the end in the last over of the innings. She notched up a second consecutive half-century in the process while seeing batters come and go at the other end. The Capitals bowlers were clinical with the likes of Radha Yadav and Titas Sadhu bagging a 2-fer each.
Deepti Sharma (Player of the match) - Backed my strengths and the shots that I have. The plan was to bowl dot balls to the set batters, I love challenges while bowling. Didn't realize that I had got a hat-trick. Shikha di usually plays straight so I was ready for the caught & bowled chance. I want to keep doing what I am doing, there is no limit to the learnings, so I want to keep improving.
Alyssa Healy (UP Warriors captain) - This is exactly what cricket is, anything can happen. We played a practice game earlier and this is what had happened there, it went to the last ball, what a contest on the occasion of Women's Day. We probably did not get the partnerships, it was not the easiest wicket to bat on but credit to Deepti she played a very crucial knock for us. Probably on the last wicket (when she realized they had a chance). Only Tahlia McGrath can calm me down, she is the calmest person on the planet. Very proud of the girls, the team.
Grace Harris - Can't use the same words that I used in the middle. It's a new role and I executed it. I am not nervous, which shocked me and there isn't any expectation on my bowling but good to get a win. I did think a little bit and thought I have to be perfect in the next deliveries. I bowled a full toss and got away it. Jess' run-out flicked this contest and I was so happy about it. Saima bowled really well, kept the stumps in play and she showed the competitive side. We fielded well and we are pretty happy about it
Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals Captain) - It's disappointing not to get a win. We get ourselves in a good position but credit to UP Warriors for sneaking it in the end. My wicket played a part. I was a set-batter and have to take a bit deep and it put the pressure on the other batters. Unfortunately, we couldn't get going at the back end. We did a lot right. Our bowlers were good and part of our batting is good too but we need to working on simple things to get better
Crazy scenes out in the middle as UP Warriors have pulled off a miraculous win and stay alive in the tournament, absolute chaos in the last couple of overs.
19.5 Grace Harris to Titas Sadhu, OUT! WHAT A MATCH!. Healy is delighted and look at the scenes in the middle. Deepti runs towards Healy and hugs her. In a must-win encounter, Healy's troops held their composure and edged past the mighty Capitals side. This is Delhi's match to lose and they surely threw it away. 19.4 Grace Harris to Taniya Bhatia, RUN OUT! Jess Jonassen is surely short of her crease and she has started walking. In fact, she is long way short of her crease. Quicker on a good length and it spins back, Taniya pulls and doesn't make any contact. The ball deflects off Healy's gloves and rolls to short fine leg. Jonassen wants to sneak a run but Healy collects it to knock the stumps

Just when you think it is all over there is yet another twist, what a humdinger this is turning out to be.

That is a shabby effort from the fielder which could end up costing the match to the UP Warriors. She misjudged it completely and ran in when all she needed was to stay back and it would have been right into the bread-basket.
