Ruturaj Gaikwad is an excellent CSK opening batter. As soon as he is stable for 6 overs he starts hitting and help increase team score. He is a consistent batter. Last season was not good but this time he can show some great comebacks.
2
Hardik Pandya is an all time favorite all rounder currently. He plays very important role in the GT batting as well as bowling line-up. He knows the every corner of the Narendra Modi stadium and can be a valuable player in today's match.
3
Ben Stokes is back with IPL matches. He is an excellent ENG all rounder and his records in IPL are amazing. He can be a valuable player for CSK and help team score as well as pick wickets.
4
Rashid Khan is one of the best spinners in the GT bowling attack. He is good at handling batters and can eventually slow the RR of the opposition team. His stats in the IPL as mesmerizing and he can now also act as a finisher for the team.

So, the defending champions kick off their tournament with a win, getting the better of the four-time champions. This was just the start of the tournament though, and there's plenty more action coming your way throughout the weekend with two doubleheaders lined up. Join us tomorrow for the two big tussles, but for now, this is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Shashwat Kumar. Goodnight!
Rashid Khan is the Player of the Match. Here is what he has to say: So happy to get the man of the match. It gives you so much energy for the tournament. I try to give my best to the team in all three departments. So happy that it came well today. (Wickets) That was the plan. Bowling to the leftie is hard but the more I keep it tight and get these two wickets, I can get my team back in the game. I just tried to keep it simple. As long as I'm hitting my areas and hitting the line and length, I will get the right result. (Batting) It's all about the work you put in the nets. It's also down to the backing the coaching staff and Hardik have put in. They're always bowling to me and theyy allow me to express myself.
Hardik Pandya (Gujarat Titans captain) Obviously, very happy. We did put ourselves in a difficult situation by Rahul and Rash got us over the line. We were very happy because at one point they were looking to go past 200. That made a big difference. As soon as we lost Kane, we knew we had to restrict them. To be honest, having this impact rule makes my job very difficult. When you have so many options, you have to pick the right one. Some bowlers came late but they did the job for us. When you have Rashid Khan in the team, it gives you a sigh of relief. He'll give you wickets and if you need some runs, he will score that for you too. My shot and Shubman's shot put the team in a tricky situation. We have to make sure we finish games and don't rely on these guys to do that.
Shubman Gill: It felt pretty good to get over the line but I was a bit disappointed with myself and how I got out. Getting off to a winning start is always important as a team. (International form helping here) Makes a difference, definitely. When you score runs in the international circuit, it helps. When the ball comes on so well at a venue like this, it's easier for the batter. The ball flies off the bat. (Partnership with Saha) There are no specifics. It's all about who is set and playing the situation. We were chasing a high-ish total today, so Wriddhi-bhai was intent on making the most of the powerplay. Very excited to play half the games here with such an amazing crowd. Looking forward to it.
MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings captain: (On where it went wrong) We were slightly short. Another 15-20 runs would have been good. We all knew there would be a bit of dew. When we were batting, we could have showed a bit more batsmanship. We tried to muscle the ball more and proper batting, hitting in good areas might have been better. Whenever he (Gaikwad) gets going, he is a pleasure to watch. He makes the right decisions and I feel over the years, the way he has groomed himself, especially when he gets going, is very pleasing on the eye. (On Hangargekar) I think it is important for the youngsters to step in. Last year also, we found Mukesh. He is unfortunately injured this season so Raj gets a chance. He has pace and the more exposure he gets, he will get better. No ball is something in your control and it hurts you really bad so it is important to control that. (On five bowlers used) Mo was there but I felt two left-armers would be better options. Shivam was the other option but I felt quite comfortable with the bowlers (I had).
Who else but Rahul Tewatia to finish things off for the Gujarat Titans? The Iceman adds the finishing touches to the run chase to get his side over the line without much of a fuss in the end. He lifts his arm by his side to celebrate the win and soak in the reception. It's the defending champions who pick up from where they left off last season.
After a solid outing with the ball that saw them restrict CSK to at least 15-20 runs below the par total, Shubman Gill took the responsibility to step up to the plate and set the tone upfront. Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan played their part in the middle before the CSK spinners managed to strangle in the middle and pull things back.
Rajvardhan Hangargekar impressed with his ability to bowl a heavy ball in the middle and provided key breakthroughs, as did Ravindra Jadeja, providing the key breakthrough for the GT captain in the middle overs. It was a tricky little chase from there on and Vijay Shankar sent a nice little reminder with a handy knock in the middle, building a partnership with Gill.
However, once the two were dismissed in quick succession, it momentarily seemed like the Gujarat Titans were going to choke in this game. That word doesn't exist in the dictionary of Rashid and Tewatia though, as the two held their nerve and produced the big shots to seal the deal for the Titans to get them off to a winning start. Stick around for the presentations!
19.2 Tushar Deshpande to Rahul Tewatia, GT WIN! In the slot on off stump again. Tewatia sits back in his crease and smashes it back past the bowler to seal the deal and hand CSK defeat in their opening fixture!
They don't call him the Iceman for nothing. Rahul Tewatia adding the finishing touches to this run chase! Scores are level
19.1 Tushar Deshpande to Rahul Tewatia, SIX MORE! In the slot outside off stump. Tewatia walks across his stumps and lofts it over mid off for a six! Scores level now!
19.1 Tushar Deshpande to Rahul Tewatia, full delivery slanted way outside off stump. Tewatia swishes and misses but sees the umpire indulge in a bit of exercise
Long leg, deep mid-wicket, long-on, long-off and sweeper cover
Tushar Deshpande [3.0-0-40-1] is back into the attack
Ooh's and aah's around the ground with an anti-climatic end to that over. Chahar started off that over so well but the two boundaries were enough for the Titans to get their noses in front again. Deshpande will have 8 runs to defend in his final over after conceding 40 from his first 3 overs.

18.6 Deepak Chahar to Rashid Khan, slower bumper outside off stump. Rashid comes down the track and has a hack at it, only connecting with fresh air
If anyone can, Rashid can! Gujarat Titans are right back in the driver's seat!
18.5 Deepak Chahar to Rashid Khan, FOUR MORE! Short, wide and punished! Too much width and Rashid has a free swing at it. He gets a thick outside edge that flies over short third man!
That's the first ball he has faced! Fearless from the Afghanistan captain! It was in the slot from Chahar though.
18.4 Deepak Chahar to Rashid Khan, RIGHT OUT OF THE SCREWS! In the slot and that goes the journey! Rashid clears his front leg and whacks it a mile over deep mid wicket!
Rashid on strike for the first time. Long-on, long-off, deep point, deep mid-wicket and deep square
