Thank you for joining us. This is Raghav and Karthik signing off.
Yash Dhull, India captain: It was a great game. The bowlers bowled really well. Sindhu contained the South African batters brilliantly. I came with the thought process that I wanted to bat till the end. Our mindset was to get on top and we did well as a team to defend the low total.
Van Heerden, SA captain: We missed a few of half-chance opportunities. We would have been content to chase 230 runs going into the game but we lost some quick wickets in a row. India bowled quite effectively. Our bowlers were outstanding once again. For the most part, the team performed admirably. The batters did an excellent job of applying themselves. We got off to a slower start than I had hoped and I think we need to start a bit faster.
Vicky Ostwal, Man of the Match: The wicket was quite good to bat but there was some dryness. The plan was to bowl tight lines. It was a 50-50 game. Grateful enough that India played well and won! Great team effort, especially Nishant Sindhu. Raj Angad Bawa and Rajvardhan Hangargekar everyone bowled well!
What a win, what a win for India! This is the perfect start for men in blue in their opening encounter of the U19 World Cup. After being put to bat first by South Africa, the Indian batters put on a sufficient total on the board and restricted South Africa to a 45 run defeat at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.
Chasing down 232 on this wicket was never going to be an easy task but South Africa were off to a pretty good start. They had Kitime and Brevis scoring progressively and adding 50 plus runs for the second wicket after losing Cunningham early for a duck. The spinners then dried up the scoring phase however, Brevis and skipper van Heerden kept South Africa in the match.
Once Brevis departed for 65, India could smell victory, they triggered a collapse right there with Vicky Ostwal starring with a five-wicket haul. Raj Bawa came back strongly after a poor first over and bagged four scalps. South Africa kept losing wickets and eventually succumbed before rolling over for 187 and handing over India a victory.
45.4 Raj Bawa to Aphiwe Mnyanda, short delivery, Mnyanda comes down and looks to slog but he skies it towards long-off. The Indian skipper Yash Dhull runs forward and takes the catch on the move. ALL OUT!! India win the match by 45 runs!
Aphiwe Mnyanda c Dhull b Bawa 5 (8b 0x4 0x6)
45.3 Raj Bawa to Aphiwe Mnyanda, slow and short delivery, Mnyanda comes down and swings hard but he misses it. The ball bounces over the stumps!
45.2 Raj Bawa to Liam Alder, length delivery, Alder whips it to deep mid-wicket for a single
45.1 Raj Bawa to Aphiwe Mnyanda, full outside-off, Mnyanda swings it to long-on for a single
Very expensive over from Rajvardhan Hangargekar. Pretty casual from the bowler knowing that there is no pressure on him. He ends up bowling beamers and freebies.
