The roughs will come into play with the match going deep. Batters have different ways of playing against spin. The guys who can step out tries to take the roughs out of the equation. When you bowl flat, the ball doesn't come into the rough which makes things easier for the batters. Generation has changed. They have the power these days. Stepping out and driving is not seen too much these days. Yeah whenever you toss the delivery, you have to jump out and play. Easwaran stepped out quite a few occasions but there is certainly no demons on the pitch.

Right then, that brings an end to our coverage of the Irani Cup! A win for Mumbai after 27 years and it is one for the history books! The domestic season is just starting off and there'll be plenty of action coming up, with the Ranji Trophy season starting on October 11. Until we meet again then, this is Team Sportskeeda bidding you adieu! Goodbye!
Ajinkya Rahane collects the trophy, hands it over to his teammates and the celebrations are underway! The players break away in groups to click pictures with the trophy. Some individual clicks, some in groups. Rest of India had a three-year winning streak going on and Mumbai start the season winning the Irani Cup!
Ajinkya Rahane (Mumbai Captain) - "It's an amazing feeling. Every session counts and we knew how the red soil wicket would behave. Tanush Kotian has been amazing for us. He was great in the last season and even today. Both the trophies are very special and at the beginning of the season it's a special feeling. We approached the match in a normal way. We were all under match practice and the boys worked really hard. It's really tough and as long as I am playing it's about setting the right benchmark for the boys. This trophy belongs to everyone. I play the game in the right spirit and look to give my best."
Sarfaraz Khan (Mumbai) - "I keep following the process and I back myself to execute the plans. It's about experience now and with time I have gotten used to things. I need to work on every thing and I am trying to work on things that I lack. This trophy is not just for Musheer but the entire team. He unfortunately got injured due to the accident and I promised him that I will make 100 runs for him and 100 for myself. Glad that I could keep up that promise."
Ruturaj Gaikwad (ROI skipper): Definitely, we got what we required in the first session, 3 wickets. We were keeping it very tight. We definitely were in the game. The partnership between Sarfaraz and Tanush extended the total than what we thought. Shardul coming in even after being not well and added more runs with Sarfaraz which added to our frustration. Abhimanyu batted very well, even Dhruv. We couldn't contribute lower down the order like they did. Mukesh did very well with 5 wickets and in the second innings, Saransh did really well too.
Right then, Mumbai complete the double, winning the Irani Cup after winning the Ranji Trophy! This is their 15th Irani Cup win in 30 appearances and it has been a hard-fought victory over the past five days to seal it. Once again showing why Mumbai is one of the strongest sides in domestic cricket.
After Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and invited Mumbai to bat first, they found themselves in a tight spot at 37/3. However, skipper Rahane and Shreyas Iyer stitched together a wonderful partnership. After that, it was Sarfaraz Khan all along as he notched up a double century to take his team to a massive 537 runs, with Kotian scoring a half century and supporting him well.
In reply, Rest of India came out all guns blazing. Abhimanyu Easwaran fell nine runs short of a double century and was supported well throughout his innings. Dhruv Jurel missed out narrowly on a century too. Sai Sudharsan, Kishan and Padikkal got starts but failed to convert them into big knocks as ROI could manage 416 runs, handing the first innings lead to Mumbai, which proved to be decisive in the end.
After an unlucky dismissal in the first innings courtesy of a stunner, Prithvi Shaw made it count in the second innings, scoring a crucial 76 runs. However, wickets fell around him as the ROI spinners took control of the game. Mumbai found themselves 171/8, and the threat of the innings being wrapped up loomed large.
However, that's when Tanush Kotian joined hands with Mohit Avasthi and batted brilliantly. A record-breaking partnership between them tired the bowlers. Kotian completed his century while Avasthi made a half-century. Mumbai batted ROI out of the game essentially and the skippers agreed to a draw one session early.
Handshakes between the Mumbai team and Ajinkya Rahane leads the team out onto the field. Sarfaraz Khan and Shardul Thakur are celebrating!
2:12 PM local time and IST: Avasthi raises his bat after completing the half century and soaks in all the applause. Shreyas Iyer signals for him to come back. And that will be it!

77.6 Manav Suthar to Mohit Avasthi, FOURRR!!! 50 up for Avasthi! It was floated up and around the middle stump line. Avasthi plays the slog sweep and gets it through the fine leg region for a boundary. And with that MUMBAI HAVE WON THE IRANI TROPHY 2024. The players have decided to shake hands and Mumbai win the Irani Trophy on the basis of their first innings lead.

Shake hands going on between the Mumbai players in the balcony and a few of them have come down the stairs too to sit in the dugout too. Shardul Thakur has packed his kit. Ajinkya Rahane has changed into his whites! Is this the last over?
77.3 Manav Suthar to Mohit Avasthi, SIXXXX!!! BIG! It was flighted up and around the middle stump line. Avasthi frees his arms and goes down the ground over long on for a MAXIMUM. It brings up the 150 partnership.
77.2 Manav Suthar to Mohit Avasthi, fuller and around the middle and leg stump line. Flicked to mid wicket. No run.
77.1 Manav Suthar to Mohit Avasthi, fuller and around the middle stump line. Avasthi hits it back to the bowler. No run.
