Commentary

Uttar Pradesh beat Mumbai by 2 wickets, pocket six points.

A thriller that ebbed and flowed but in the end, Uttar Pradesh have come out on top by a 2-wicket margin to confine Mumbai to their first defeat of the season. Karan Sharma (67*) was the star as he dug in for a long innings despite retiring hurt initially and ensured that he was there until the end even as wickets fell at regular intervals. Tanush Kotian snared a five-wicket haul but unfortunately for Mumbai, who were without their injured skipper Ajinkya Rahane on the field, it wasn't enough. After three draws and just five points in their kitty, Uttar Pradesh desperately needed this win and it now vaults them to fourth spot in Group B. Mumbai remain up top, five points clear of second-placed Andhra.

Stumps on Day 3 - Mumbai 303/8, lead Uttar Pradesh by 177 runs in the 2nd innings.

In an astonishing comeback, Mumbai have put themselves on track to pull off a famous win having ended Day 3 against Uttar Pradesh on 303/8. Shivam Dube was the star as he blitzed 117 off 130 deliveries with seven maximums while Shams Mulani (59) continued to remain an able lower-order ally. It's all the more remarkable when you fancy that the hosts were 86/6 at one stage and staring down the barrel of an innings defeat. Mohit Avasthi is currently batting on 34 and he will be buoyed when he takes the red cherry in hand if he can stretch this lead past 200 first up tomorrow.

Stumps on Day 2 - Mumbai 24/0, trail Uttar Pradesh by 102 runs in the 2nd innings.

Skipper Nitish Rana's sparkling 106 gave Uttar Pradesh a healthy first innings lead of 126 against hosts Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. While opener Samarth Singh (63) and Akshdeep Nath (41) also made vital contributions, Rana played the protagonist's role even as Royston Dias and Shivam Dube bagged three wickets apiece for Mumbai, who then ended the day unscathed for 24 runs. A big, big task lies ahead of them though to stave off a solid Uttar Pradesh attack and pose them a sizeable fourth innings target.

It was all about Uttar Pradesh at the Wankhede Stadium on Day 1 of this fourth round contest. Mumbai were reduced to 117/6 after being asked to bat first with Ankit Rajpoot and Aaqib Khan ripping their top-order to shreds. Shams Mulani turned in yet another rescue act, top-scoring with 57 to drag Mumbai's score to 198. Royston Dias removed Aryan Juyal for 27 but UP are firmly placed on 53/1 with the aim of batting long and batting once. Can Mumbai roar back much like they did against Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram?
