Commentary

Of course, India take center stage tomorrow in their final group game against Ireland. A win will seal their spot in the semi-finals with a battle against Australia lined up, if things go to plan. Well luckily, we only have to wait till tomorrow to find out. For now, this is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Pragadeesh. Goodnight!

Right then. Sri Lanka were one step away from sealing their place in the semi-finals for the first time ever but that wait will go on a little bit longer. That's the way the cookie crumbles for them in this tournament. As for New Zealand, they've given themselves a chance and are still alive. However, they have to hope that Bangladesh do them a favor and defeat the hosts in that headline contest on Tuesday. For now, everyone can take a breath and relax.

Sophie Devine (New Zealand captain): I wish this was the first game but it's not to be. After the two losses, I stand here today feeling extremely proud to bounce back the way we have. We've given ourselves a chance. It's an outside chance but we're very proud of that. Carrying on, in the same manner, was important, especially with the way we played in the last game. Bates was excellent and Melie (Kerr) was outstanding. We spoke about 160 and knew it would be competitive and the bowlers were outstanding today. It's fantastic, the competition in this tournament. Sri Lanka beat South Africa in the first game which started all these permutations and twists. Australia is still winning, so it's pretty boring (laughs). The other teams are coming along too, and anyone can beat anyone. (Crowd) It has been fantastic. Suzie Bates got about four marriage requests. The support means everything. There's a real vibe and atmosphere to this place and we've enjoyed every bit of it.

Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Captain): It was a tough day in the middle. As a bowling unit, we didn't get early wickets. 140 was a good score to chase but they got 160. In batting, we lost early wickets. I think the game plan is not coming together. Some players felt the pressure in the middle and they need experience because I have only some senior players in the team. A lot of young girls don't have enough experience to play this kind of game. If we take too much pressure on our shoulders, the result comes like this. We played a good tournament, beating South Africa and Bangladesh, and we played good cricket against Australia. We will learn a lot from today's defeat and will carry that into the future

Amelia Kerr (Man of the Match):It was nice to have a performance like this and get a big win for the team after a tough start. I was short of runs and it's good to get that partnership with Suzie, who is a class act. Both of us love to talk cricket. It was a tough wicket and we spoke about the best option to score a boundary. I am loving bowling more even more than I have before There were a lot of chats because the ball kept low.We were trying to play straight, looking for ones, twos and then the boundaries. I am sure my family will be watching and I miss them a lot

Better late than never as far as New Zealand are concerned. They didn't have the best of starts to this tournament but they saved their best for last to churn out a commanding performance to give themselves a comprehensive win, boosting their net run rate to keep them alive in the tournament.

It was set up by Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr in the first innings before the bowlers ran riot to send Sri Lanka packing. Harshitha, Gunaratne and de Silva all departed early in the powerplay to leave their side tottering at 24-3 at one stage. It was Carson, Rowe and Jess Kerr who got the ball rolling for the White Ferns.

Amelia Kerr struck with a massive blow to dismiss Chamari Athapathu and it all unraveled rather quickly from there on for the Sri Lankans. Apart from the captain, only Malsha Shehani managed to score runs in double-digits, which tells you everything you need to know.

Lea Tahuhu came into the mix to take a couple of wickets and become the leading wicket-taker in this tournament. Fran Jonas also made her mark before Amelia Kerr finished things off to knock Sri Lanka out of the tournament and keep New Zealand's hopes alive.

That will be that. Kulasuriya won't be coming out to bat. This is Sri Lanka's lowest total in T20 World Cups.
