Commentary

Well, then. Pakistan open their account with a clinical victory over Netherlands. They still need other results to go in their favour to make it through to the semi-final. The result of the India-South Africa game, which is going to start in half an hour, will be crucial to their fortunes. It will be one of those rare occasions where Pakistan fans will be backing India to win.

Babar Azam (Captain, Pakistan): Definitely, very happy with both bowling and batting. The length was crucial on this surface, there was bounce from a good length. The plan was to bowl in good areas and stick to our lengths. To be honest, we should be chasing much better than this. We lost 4 wickets, if we have lost 1 or 2 wickets, it would have been better than this. We are looking forward to the next matches and will hopefully do well in the coming matches.

Scott Edwards (Captan, Netherlands): Still the right decision, we hadn't batted first the whole tournament, we wanted to put score, give our bowlers enough to defend and we just weren't good enough on the day. Just in general, we were poor, 15 of the powerplay and couldn't string partnerships and couldn't find boundaries. 90 on a decent wicket is tough to defend, the bowlers put their effort on a good wicket, we weren't just good enough to be honest.

Shadab Khan has been adjudged the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: It was a good pitch, tried to bowl wicket to wicket. Had bowled to the Dutch players in the county cricket. We did put pressure on them in the powerplay and I was able to pick up the wickets. It was actually not good to go out and get the remaining run, we just couldn't finish the games in the first two games.

The target of 92 runs was never going to threaten this Pakistan batting line-up. They did well to ensure that it was chased down with plenty of overs to spare. Pakistan would have lost a couple of wickets more than the captain would have liked, but they are eventually home with a decent boost to their net run rate.

Babar Azam's torrid time in the World Cup continued as he was dismissed looking for a quick single. His partner at the top, Mohammad Rizwan, continued his prolific run of form though. He batted sensibly for the most part of that innings. His partnership with Fakhar Zaman early on ensure there were no mishaps in the chase.

Fakhar Zaman had a bit of a niggle while turning for a run. He threw his bat at a wide one soon after and found an edge to the keeper. Rizwan batted on and fell just short of yet another half-century. It felt like Shan Masood would see his team through but he too fell with the scores level. Babar Azam might have a word with his batters tonight about seeing the game through.

Paul van Meekeren was once again the pick of the bowlers for Netherlands. He bowled with some gas and asked some difficult questions to the batters. He ended with figures of 1/19 in 4 overs. Brandon Glover picked up a couple of wickets too. But the total was too low for the bowlers to have any impact in the game.

Full toss on the fifth stump, Shadab gets forward and thumps it just wide of mid-off to his left, runs away and picks out the ropes.
