A dominant bowling and fielding display and the Heat have scorched the defending champions in their own backyard. It was always going to be a tough ask for the Scorchers having lost their openers Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney inside the four-over powerplay and with the Heat bowlers hitting their radar to the 'T', it only complicated matters even further.

Jess Jonassen was happy to keep switching her bowlers in and out of the attack with nobody getting a long spell per se. The seamers hit the deck and used the bounce on offer while the spinners had enough purchase to work with. Maddy Green was in charge of the resurrection as the asking rate continued to mount with the Scorchers losing wickets at regular intervals. In essence, the wicket of Marizanne Kapp before the drinks break was the final nail in the coffin as it left Green and Mathilda Carmichael far too much to do.

The duo got a steady partnership going but such was the required run rate that the move to delay the Power Surge backfired on the home side. Green looked to switch gears but it just never came with the Heat giving nothing to work with. Nicola Hancock and Courtney Sippel then partnered up to send down a couple of masterful overs in the Power Surge, shutting the door on the Scorchers for good, even as Green notched up a half-century. Amelia Kerr and Charli Knott were impeccable with the ball themselves, with the latter bowling the final over in the powerplay and landing the killer blow in the form of Mooney's wicket.

The result has now seen the Heat soar to the top of the table and this is a huge boost for them as they've managed to pull one back over the defending champions. The Scorchers have work to do with the bat with a lot continuing to ride on the shoulders of Mooney at this point - with the Hobart Hurricanes slowly climbing up the ladder, every game is now crucial for those in the top four if they are to consolidate their positions in the upper echelons of the table.

A clinical display on the field and with the ball in hand and it was as good as it could have got from the Heat's point of view. They now surge to the top of the table with a thumping 33-run victory!
