Prague Spartans CC beat Moravian CC by 49 runs

Tame. That's the word one can use to describe the performance of Moravian batting line up whilst chasing down the target of 118. Agreed, the target was quite steep and would have required some stellar performance from the Moravian batters but a little fire or intent would have been nice to witness.

Openers Dheeraj Thakur and Vignesh Surendran were unnecessarily circumspect and afforded far too much respect to the Spartans' bowlers. While Thakur carried his bat through the innings, he could only muster 35 runs whilst consuming 29 deliveries. Absolutely criminal when you are entrusted with the responsibility to set the tone of the game.

Skipper Om Sharma (0 off 4) and wicketkeeper Akshay Babu (10 off 12) also couldn't add much to the chase and in the end, the Moravian innings kind of fizzled out. Spartans allowed the part timers to bowl and get some much required match practice under their belt.

With this loss, Moravian's are all but out of the playoff contention. They still have a mathematical chance of making it to the top-4. However, given the way the team has performed, it looks highly unlikely that they will go the distance. Meanwhile, Spartans have consolidated their position at the top of the table and will be absolutely elated going into the business end of the tournament.

So that was that. This is Abhinav Singh and my partner Bidipto Datta signing off for the moment. Do join us in 25 minutes' time as we bring live action from the match between Prague Tigers CC and Vinohrady CC.

9.6 Satyajit Sengupta to Dheeraj Thakur, short and slightly wide outside off, it gets edged away of the swinging bat to third man who keeps it to one and the win is complete for the Spartans!
9.5 Satyajit Sengupta to Dheeraj Thakur, short outside off, extra bounce and the cut shot gets missed again! Dot ball.
9.4 Satyajit Sengupta to Vineesh Njarekkattil, good length ball on middle, worked away to square-leg off the back foot for one.
Vineesh Njarekkattil, RHB walks out to bat at no. 5
9.3 Satyajit Sengupta to Akshay Babu, good length ball from wide of the crease, fast as well, it takes the slice of the bat and spoons up to point for an easy CATCH! WICKET, after the attempted heave!

Akshay Babu c K Balakrishnan b S Sengupta (10 runs, 12 balls, 1x4, 0x6)
9.2 Satyajit Sengupta to Akshay Babu, short outside off and beaten for pace was the cut shot! Dot ball.
9.1 Satyajit Sengupta to Akshay Babu, full on off, in the slot and hit straight over the top, for a well-struck FOUR!
Satyajit Sengupta [1-0-4-1] to bowl the final over

Slow proceedings in the field as Kumar bowls a flurry of wides before getting his radar right. Moravian batters are not even trying to look for the big shots. Meanwhile, Spartans are giving bowling practice to their not-so-established stars. An improbable 56 runs required in 6 deliveries

8.6 Vignesh Kumar to Akshay Babu, shorter ball outside off, carved away to deep point for a single.
8.5 Vignesh Kumar to Akshay Babu, fuller on leg, it takes the pad, and an overthrow allows two leg-byes.

8.3 Vignesh Kumar to Akshay Babu, short outside off, hit to cover off the back foot for one.
8.2 Vignesh Kumar to Dheeraj Thakur, full on middle, hit down the ground to long-on for only one run.
8.1 Vignesh Kumar to Akshay Babu, full on leg, hit straight up in the air, not well timed, but it lands safely to mid-on for one.
8.1 Vignesh Kumar to Akshay Babu, WIDE down leg again!
8.1 Vignesh Kumar to Akshay Babu, WIDE down leg!
Vignesh Kumar, right-arm, medium-fast to bowl the penultimate over

At the same stage Prague Spartans CC were 102/2 while Moravian CC are 53/2 and miles behind in the game. The batters have all but given up and are just working the ball around to complete the formality of playing the 10 overs. A pretty tame performance from the batting unit
