Baroda now have a date with destiny on Sunday when they take on their fellow undefeated rivals Tamil Nadu, in what promises to be a real cracker of a game between the two best teams in this year's tournament. Punjab though would take back a lot of positives from their tournament, not least the manner in which they went past the two-time & current defending champions of the tournament Karnataka not just once, but twice in this year's tournament. Baroda though looked the better team today, and thanks to that 93 run partnership for the 3rd wicket between their skipper Kedar Devdhar & Kartik Kakade, had put up a fighting total of 160/3, which was ultimately enough to subdue Punjab, who must also be ruing the number of dropped catches and misfields done by them, which ultimately helped Baroda to win this second semi-final & book a dance-off against Tamil Nadu in the final to win this year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Punjab never looked like getting back into the game, especially after Lukman Meriwala bagged up both the openers Abhishek Sharma & Prabhsimran Singh for 5 and 15 runs respectively, while Anmolpreet Singh too never looked comfortable at the crease and was sent back scoring just 15 runs from 19 balls. Gurkeerat Singh Mann tried to raise a fight by scoring 39 off 37 deliveries, but apart from their injured skipper Mandeep Singh at no.6, who scored a valiant 42* off 27 balls, no other Punjab batsman looked comfortable at the crease as they came and went away like passing thoughts, as their chase ended at a score of 135/8 in their allocated 20 overs. For Baroda, their pick of the bowlers was once again the left-arm pacer Lukman Meriwala who broke the back of the Punjab chase early on & ended his superlative spell of 3/28 in 4 overs, which should once again be catching the eye of many IPL franchises. He was ably supported by Babashafi Pathan who bowled quick and hard and picked up 1/25 in his 4 overs, despite dropping Gurkeerat off just the fourth ball of his spell. Ninad Rathva too bowled a very tight spell & picked up the critical wickets of Anmolpreet Singh & Ramandeep Singh & had 2/18 to show from 3 overs, while the first-innings half-centurion Kartik Kakade too picked up a wicket in his 1 over, ending with 1/5 to go with his 53*. Atit Sheth too had a wicket to show for his efforts while Bhargav Bhatt bowled a tight spell of 0/22 in his 4 overs. They were ably supported by their fielders who put in a really professional display with 6 catches accounting amongst the 8 Punjab wickets which fell & some critical fielding efforts which saved more than a few runs on the field.
This has been a very professional display by Baroda, who've been the better side in all the departments of the game, as Punjab are defeated quite comprehensively by 25 runs.

A stoppage in play as Sid Kaul comes out to bat with the Team India helmet. Tape has been applied over the logo and we're good to go!
Meriwala has a merry day on the park, as he ends his outstanding spell for 3/28 in his 4 overs & Punjab almost done and dusted here with 118/8 after 19 overs and requiring another 43 runs from the last over. Siddharth Kaul walks out to bat with Atit Sheth comes to bowl the last over of the game.
