That's all from this game, do join us back in the evening for the second quarter finals between Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh in this year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament. Till then switch tabs for other cricketing action around the world. I have been Ankit along with Vasisht, as we bid farewell!
Prabhsimran Singh has been brilliant with the bat at the top of the order, as he's shows us today as well. Punjab will be overjoyed with their performance today, in the first knockout match that was the first quarter finals of the year. They move onto the semi finals and will definitely face a tougher challenge next. Punjab have never won this tournament and that should be motivation enough for them to continue to dominate their matches and go all the way.
The decision to bowl first has proved right for Mandeep Singh, with the team batting first having won most of the encounters. Punjab bowlers came in hard, bowled in the right areas to get early wickets and capitalize on the situation. Runs were coming in hard after the powerplay for the team from south, but just when they got some rhythm, the Punjab bowlers struck again, this time to kill. They made sure there's no recovering from there. They bowled out Karnataka for 87, before that batsmen came in padded up to chase it down.
No surprises whatsoever, as Punjab have convincingly won this encounter, to go through to the semi finals. With a mere total of 87 on the board, it was always going to be a walk in the park for the unbeaten side. Abhishek Sharma gifted his wicket early in the innings, in an attempt to score quick runs. But Mandeep Singh and Prabhsimran made sure there are no further hiccups in the chase. Both batted sensibly, picking their shots well, picking the gaps and boundaries regularly, not to let Karnataka dictate terms.
Prabhsimran wins the game in style, sits on his backfoot and dispatches it over midwicket who does catch the ball but goes over the ropes. Quite similar to something that happened many years ago in Lagaan, with Aamir Khan hitting a winning six. Obviously different circumstances but Punjab power through to the semi finals.
12.4 Shreyas Gopal to Prabhsimran Singh, SIX! Curtains for Karnataka! short of length on middle and Singh climbs all over it to bully it deep mid wicket who catches it but loses balance! Punjab win by 9 wickets.
12.3 Shreyas Gopal to Prabhsimran Singh, flatter and straighter, rushes Singh into a push, no run
12.2 Shreyas Gopal to Mandeep Singh, touch short again and Mandeep quick to rock back and dispatch it to square leg for one
12.1 Shreyas Gopal to Mandeep Singh, touch short outside off and guided close to the body for no run
Impressive from Prabhsimran to play with spin and get a good 8 runs off the over. This could be the final over coming up next.
