That is that from the South Indian Derby. A win apiece for both these teams this tournament but there's a massive clash in store tomorrow. Delhi Capitals, who have blown hot and cold all season, lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad, who've now lost two on the trot, at the Brabourne Stadium. It's been a tough few weeks for Harshal Patel off the field. But such is his temperament that he has bounced back with his pedigree and skills on the field. Yet again, he does the needful for RCB towards the back end of the innings and after a string of three losses, the Challengers are back to winning ways. They've got 12 points against their name and will look to continue this momentum against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday (May 8) at the Wankhede Stadium. The Chennai Super Kings will take the field later that very day in Navi Mumbai with Rishabh Pant's Delhi Capitals being their opponents. It's going to take a miracle of some kind for the defending champions' already flimsy thread to cling on and give them a chance for the playoffs. For all practical reasons though, it's all but over for the Super Kings.

Hear from the man then: I think in the first over I was trying to bowl slower balls into the pitch but I just floated a couple under the bat and they went to the boundary. I have been trying that over the last four or five games - to concede two less boundaries in my spell and to be tighter with my execution. When I look at the last four or five games I haven't had as much of an impact as I did in the first half. So that's what I've been trying to correct and I'm very happy I was able to come back the way I did. (On the change of ends) To both the left-handers we decided that I would bowl wider of the off-stump so that allowed me to use the bigger side. That was the only rationale behind changing ends. You need to be aware of what the conditions are and secondly what the batters are trying to do, the areas they are trying to score in. Most importantly, it's about what are the deliveries you are trying to execute. At the top of your mark you have to be clear with your options and your field placements. As long as you have clarity at the top of your mark you should be fine. (What is his Plan B on a pitch that's gripping?) It's about sequencing - when they're waiting for the slower balls how do I make sure I don't give them those. That's when my hard length balls, the bouncers and the yorkers come in. I haven't been able to use my yorkers much this season and that's something I want to bring back towards the back end of this season.

Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain): We definitely needed that just for the confidence in the group. The guys have been doing a really good job behind the scenes but you have to get out there and do the job. I think we're heading in the right direction. The bowling department has been doing well all tournament and it was just about backing it up with some good runs. I was thinking 165 will be par on this pitch. We felt the Powerplay will be the easiest time to score due to the nature of the pitch. I think the Powerplay was really good and the energy in the field was excellent with the guys diving around in the field. Some really good bowling as well. We're really lucky to have that experience and two guys who've captained teams before. It's great to lean on that experience and ask questions. But the communication is also better since we now know each other - we understand the relationships, what's the best and what's not the best (grins). We need to keep improving in the batting department. We'd like one of our top four to bat through and get that 70-plus score since we've got that power coming in later. It's just that consistency around the batting unit and keep making sure we play a positive brand of cricket. We shouldn't be too defensive especially during the business end of the tournament. (When do they start thinking about net run-rate?) Once you get an opportunity in a match to think about the run rate then you will think about it. But the nature for us now is to get the wins. If we get the wins we'll be there or thereabouts. I never think about it so far ahead. Hopefully we get an opportunity where we sit on the side of the field, have a discussion and then put the foot on the gas.

Glenn Maxwell (Royal Challengers Bangalore): Over the moon. It was a really good bowling effort there - there was enough tackiness in the wicket to exploit. Our spinners did well and the seamers held their nerve in the back end. The way Jadeja and Moeen Ali bowled it showed that there was enough in the wicket to get some grip out of. For me it was about trying to get the odd one to spin more. It was good with both the lefties out there, just to give another option (for the captain) towards the end as well. With the Robin (Uthappa) wicket, if I had bowled over the wicket he could have got the pull shot in so it was about cramping him for room from around the wicket. Hopefully we can ride this momentum - I feel winning momentum is hard to stop. Our batters are middling it more and more and our bowlers are doing really well too. Hopefully we haven't left it too late and we can peak well going forward before the finals.

MS Dhoni (CSK captain): I think we did well to restrict them to 170-odd runs. I felt in the second half, I felt it would get better. What really let us down was the batsmanship. When you are chasing, you know what is required. At times, you have to curb your instinct and bat according to your situation. If the batsmanship was better, we would have had lesser to chase in the last seven overs. The wicket got better and we kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Chasing is more about calculation and batting first is more about instinct. As a batter, you have to decide on those things. It is not about how many games we have lost this season that led to this loss. It is easy to get distracted by the number of points you have. It is important to focus on the process. If you take care of that, the points table will take care of itself.

Yet again, the Chennai Super Kings fail to win two on the bounce. It's been the story of their season which, it must be said has come to an end. They're in with a mathematical chance but 14 points to qualify seems a far cry in a 10-team tournament. More so, with their appalling net run-rate. What a big victory for the Royal Challengers Bangalore though - not in terms of the margin, but owing to the fact that they've arrested a three-game losing streak!

It was a typically slow start from Ruturaj Gaikwad although Devon Conway went about his work like a million dollars. He looked the part and despite a slow start, the Super Kings caught up to rack up 51 in the Powerplay. That's when the slide began though!

Gaikwad failed to get hold of a short one that bounced a tad high and Robin Uthappa slashed a short and wide delivery to backward point. Ambati Rayudu's lack of footwork saw the death rattle behind him and CSK were in dodgy territory with the asking rate mounting. Shahbaz Ahmed and Glenn Maxwell ran through their overs in a professional manner, keeping it tight and using the grip on offer by hitting the perfect lengths. So much so, that they outbowled lead spinner Wanindu Hasaranga who took some tap.

With Conway out there though, the game was still even but the moment he swept one into the hands of deep backward square leg for a flamboyant 56, that's where the cookie crumbled. Moeen Ali failed to get impetus into his innings and with a flurry of dots, CSK were staring at the prospect of getting 47 off the last 3 overs.

In the end, that was far too much to their liking with no dew setting in. Their world came crashing down the moment Moeen and MS Dhoni fell and the Super Kings succumbed to the guile of Josh Hazlewood and Harshal Patel.

Superb stuff from RCB! They've bled some runs at the death this season but none of the kind tonight. Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood deal the killer blow as arguably, the curtains come down on CSK's campaign. Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs!
