Commentary

That brings us to the end of a thrilling contest. The first super over in the history of WPL and in the end, the UP Warriorz managed to hold their nerves and steal victory from the jaws of defeat. The win for UP will make things very interesting going forward. RCB still on top due to superior net run rate but all the teams are very close to each other. Like always, it was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage from this encounter. Sophie Ecclestone is the Player of the Match, here is what she had to say: Yeah it was amazing to experience that. I never get nervous fo bowl. This was the first time in five years I got nervous. However it was fun to be part of this. We can laugh about it now. Kranti doesn't understand anything I told. I just told her to run. Hopefully we can go three from three here. It was a great game and it was amazing to get over the line.

Deepti Sharma (UP Warriorz captain): I have to control my nerves for the upcoming games. Was a nerve wracking game, what a game of cricket. First super over in the WPL but it was largely possible due to Sophie Ecclestone. We batted well as an unit. I didn't get time to talk with Sophie. There was a belief in her. She bowled the 20th over and we backed her skills. She is one of the best in the world. We don't go according to venues to be honest, it's about the pitches and how to plan accordingly. We will go to our hotel and celebrate the win.

Jon Lewis [UP Warriorz coach]: Absolutely. We've pulled the win from the jaws of the defeat, making it a habit and hopefully whoever watched it had a great day. I did say to batting coach, Sophie can strike the ball really well, they didn't bowl particularly well to her, she executed with the ball, shows the class. It's not easy for a left-arm spinner, valuable player for us, performs wherever she goes. We're not going to calm down, we're going to keep going, that's the way we go from here. Not at all, we're backing our young Indian players, to go out there and perform under pressure, we'd like to give opportunities. Be nice to get few more runs from the middle order, rotate the strike and get better, that'll do for us.

Smriti Mandhana [Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain]: It was disappointing to be on the losing side, we did a lot of things right both with bat and ball. These things happen in cricket, we will come back stronger. I've been pretty positive all throughout the tournament, but I went into the shell, will work on it and come back stronger. Always good to have bowling at the back, it was brilliant watch to Perry, tough to see her to be on the losing side. Her bowling for us is crucial, really sorry that she ended up on the losing side. Ekta and Rana bowled well, all of them in fact. We can take a lot of pride from it, will take it on our stride.

It turned out to be one of the most thrilling matches you will ever witness in Women's Premier League history. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women were put under tremendous pressure in the final over courtesy of a blistering knock from Sophie Ecclestone. However they somehow managed to take the game to the super over but couldn't quite save the day.

Kim Garth was under a bit of pressure but just conceded 8 runs in the super over and the pressure was well on UP. However Sophie Ecclestone bowled a sensational super over, conceding just 4 runs to orchestrate a famous win for the UP Warriorz. They were chasing a stiff target and needed the opening duo to start well. Kiran Navgire came out firing all cylinders and smashed a 12 ball 24 which included four fours and a six.

Vrinda Dinesh also looked in good touch. It was one shot too many from Navgire which resulted in her departure. Deepti Sharma came in at number three and the intention was pretty clear from the all-rounder. However two quick wickets of Vrinda and Tahlia McGrath put the pressure back on the Warriorz. Deepti also departed against the run of play as they were reduced to 72/4.

Wickets kept tumbling as the dangerous Grace Harris was holed out at long on. Shweta Sehrawat and Uma Chetry stitched a vital partnership but departed at a crucial juncture of the game. Chinelle Henry’s wicket seemed to be the final nail in the coffin but Sophie Ecclestone had other ideas.

She struck some exceptional shots in the last three overs to turn the game on its head. She scored a quickfire 33 off 19 deliveries which included a four and a six. The match eventually went down to the super over where UP Warriorz prevailed. A thrilling match and it will give a lot of confidence to the unit to get into a nice winning momentum. They all jump in joy, Ecclestone the hero for UP Warriorz, she did it with the bat and she did with the ball for them. RCB have been stunned here in their own backyard, they cannot believe what just happened! Was another full toss, Smriti has a wild hack across the line and doesn't get the desired connection that was needed, swipes it to deep square-leg for just one. Didn't concede a single boundary in the super-over, what a game this has been!

0.4 Sophie Ecclestone to Smriti Mandhana, on a length on fourth stump Smriti clears her front foot and slammed it flat to long-on, but finds the fielder on the bounce for just one. Pressure now on Ghosh!

That looked pretty adjacent and the finger has been raised. Mandhana was walking off but decides to take the review at the last moment. Wow, it is pitching outside leg and Mandhana survives.

0.3 Sophie Ecclestone to Smriti Mandhana, LOUD APPEALS FOR LBW, FINGER GOES UP! Smriti wants to review it. Walks well across off-stump, exposes the leg-stump. Ecclestone goes full and straight. Smriti misses, pings on the front pad.

UltraEdge confirms flat line through and through. Ball tracking has, PITCHING OUTSIDE LEG. Turned out to be a great review from Smriti, but she has three balls to get RCB over the line.
