That brings us to end of a brilliant tournament. MI New York, the deserved champions as they continued winning championships all across the globe. Like always, it was a pleasure bringing all the live action from this game and all through the tournament. Till the next time, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Sooryanarayanan Sesha. Keep following Sportskeeda for all the latest sporting action.
MCL Trophy to be presented by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and the celebrations start for the MI New York franchise. Owner Nita Ambani joins them and the celebrations will go on late at night. What a massive success.
And now, time to hear from Nicholas Pooran (MI New York captain): Chatting today we spoke about the opportunity to create history. Qualifying fourth, it was hard work reaching the finals, losing the captain and a couple of other players. We stuck through with our backs against the wall. I'm really proud of every single individual in our dressing room. Everyone contributed in some way. Definitely it was game on but we knew it was a really good batting wicket. We were preparing for this moment a week ago. We had four games in six days and we defended 140, chased down 160 and put ourselves in high-pressure situations for this game. And we got over the line today. I was sitting there outside and said 'okay Nicky, you're not the captain anymore. You're going to bat like Nicky P'. I've been working on my game over the years and trying to become more consistent. The opportunity was in front of me today. I've been working hard for the last five to six years to try and finish the job. I just want to thank all the fans who came out and support us. Major League this year has definitely been a success.
Nita Ambani to present the winning medals to the MI New York contingent. She flew in from Mumbai just to cheer for her side and she has a flight back home in a few hours time so it clearly shows the dedication, she has for the team.
Nicholas Pooran is also adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. Hope he's got a bag big enough to fit all those awards in!
Nicholas Pooran is now awarded for finishing as the leading run-getter of the tournament with 388 runs - 124 runs more than Quinton de Kock, who finished second.
Trent Boult receives an award for finishing as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 22 scalps - that's twice the number that Cameron Gannon, who came second on the charts, picked up.
Cameron Gannon (Domestic player of the Tournament): Very happy, its pleasing to get acknowledgement. Tonight is about MI New York. What a knock from Nichi. It's nice to get an award but not happy with the result. I guess, it's been a wonderful tournament. The quality has been exceptional. It's fun playing with some of the best in the game. Looking forward to coming back if I can. I think I will like to play in a World Cup. I am 34 now and not looking too much in the future.
The match officials are to be presented with memorabilia.
Now off to post-tournament presentations with Pommie Mbangwa.
Wayne Parnell (Seattle Orcas captain): As a professional losing sucks every single time. But when someone plays a masterful knock like that you have to give credit. If you look at the previous game when we beat them, Heinrich Klaasen played such a classic innings. Disappointing loss but credit to Nicky and his team. I think it (toss) was a bit of a factor. It was a bit slower in the first 10-12 overs but once it got darker it skid on a little bit more. We thought it was a decent total but we just have to live with it. (Message for the fans) First season, it's gone really well. Credit to everyone who has organized it, to our owners and management for picking such a good squad and also for giving the freedom to go out and express ourselves. I can see this going from strength to strength. Let's see where it goes.
Nicholas Pooran - surprise, surprise - is the Player of the Match for his astounding unbeaten century!
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony with Natalie Germanos.
Robin Peterson (MI New York head coach): We wanted to keep our composure. We had to deal with a lot of diversity. Losing our skipper but we turned it around brilliantly. I am not sure, to be honest. We have to reflect on it when he have some time off (on what turned things around for them towards the fag end), team sprit and fighting qualities got us here. Thanks to the crowd for coming in large numbers and supporting us.
Kieron Pollard, who has Dwayne Bravo on video call: I'm just telling him I'm coming to catch him. Very very special - congratulations and kudos to the guys on the cricket team. They took the team from the Eliminator to the final. Very proud of the guys. (On Pooran) Very very special. This is something I've been seeing for a long time. We get to see a special player. Hopefully one day we will realize that he's a talent that can lead West Indies in the Caribbean. At one point of time we were on the brink of elimination but the way the guys stood up was brilliant. (On MI's nine trophies across different leagues) It's about belief - the never say die attitude that we have. The way we develop youngsters with experience as well. I've been part of all of them - even the women's league I was there for the final as well. Hopefully we can step into the right direction and there are many more trophies to come. Thank you for coming out and supporting us - this is the home ground of Texas Super Kings but it turned blue today with a lot of people coming from around the world.
David Wiese: Its been an amazing effort from everybody. We came here not knowing what cricket was like in US. Every team who has been here so far has contributed. Great to come out with a win. To see the support here is amazing. The MI New York supporters have been brilliant. I won’t too hard on the party but will definitely enjoy the success.
Dewald Brevis: Great to be part of the winning team. Everything worked out as a troop and we are ready to celebrate. Its a great learning curve. Learning in every situation and that is how you keep developing your game.
Rashid Khan: I had only three hours to get here before the game. It's big to be part of this team in South Africa, the UAE and now here. It's a very special win. The best thing is it's the first edition of this league and winning this is very special. With the MI family it's my first trophy so it's very special.
Kagiso Rabada: It's great to win in the inaugural year of the MLC. Very stoked, that was an unbelievable game. Good to see Nicky P playing the way he is and this guy here (Rashid). There was no way to get him out tonight (on Pooran). He was incredible - close to probably the innings of his life. He was facing good bowlers too so it wasn't easy.
Time to get some reactions in!
Tim David: Championships are hard to win. Lost a couple of finals but this is an awesome win. I think everyone here was treated to something special. Nicky P, that was bloody awesome. It was a treat - I had the first-class seat in the house. That was something special. It was a slow start to the tournament but at the right stage of the tournament we were gelling well. It takes a team and the whole support staff to win the cup.
Shayan Jahangir: The trust and support I have been getting from the franchise, the owners and support staff has been commendable. And at the back end we've got the trophy. Lots of exposure - the amount of talent we have in the US is crazy. We can match any country in the world and with the MLC coming in, we will put US cricket on the map. Trent Boult: There is no secret. When it comes to finals, it's all about enjoying yourself. Loved to see the fireworks from Mr Pooran.
Nosthush Kenjige: I have couldn't have asked for anything more. The last two or three games have been do-or-die and we have responded very well. Haven’t seen someone hit the ball so cleanly as Pooran did today. It's a godless number of people you look upto.
MI New York won by 7 wickets (with 24 deliveries to spare)
Nicholas Pooran 137*(55) | Rashid Khan 3/9(4) Quinton de Kock 87(52) | Imad Wasim 1/14(2)
Take a bow, Nicholas Pooran! One of the finest T20 knocks of all time and that too in a final and MI New York are the champions of the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC). You won't see a better innings than what Pooran played today. Chasing a middling score of 184 to win, MI New York was jolted early as Imad Wasim castled Steven Taylor with a beautiful drifter but what transpired from there on left the Seattle Orcas dazed and scratching their heads for answers.
Nicholas Pooran came out all guns blazing and smashed Imad Wasim for two sixes in the very first over before clobbering Dwaine Pretorius for 28 runs in the 3rd over. It was clinical hitting and none of the shots were slogging. He held his shape for most of his innings and kept plundering the bowling attack all around the park. Shayan Jahangir departed after struggling through to 10 off 11 deliveries but Pooran continued the carnage and made the run chase look ridiculously easy.
He kept plundering sixes with utmost ease as none of the Orcas bowlers had an answer. Pooran eventually remained unbeaten on 137 off a mere 55 deliveries which was studded with 10 fours and 13 sixes. The only wicket-takers for the Orcas was Imad Wasim and Wayne Parnell who bagged a wicket each. The celebrations will go on as MI win yet another title.
Pooran has somehow managed to squeeze that out from the inside half of the bat for a boundary and the MI New York comes running in to congratulate Nicholas Pooran for what has been one of the greatest T20 knocks. The score of 183 looked a daunting target and when you lose a wicket in the first over, the pressure was very much on MI but what Pooran produced will make MI very proud for what they have done in the tournament. A tremendous win as MI crowned inaugural MLC champions.
