That's all from us then! We hope you enjoyed our live coverage of this first test between West Indies and South Africa. This is Soumarya Dutta, signing off on behalf of my partner Pradeep. See you soon!
Right so, South Africa have come out on top in the first Test and they've ended things up in just 3 days! It was a comprehensive victory for them except for that second innings blip with the bat where they got bundled out for just 112. For the West Indies, it's been a tough test match especially because they failed to make use of the surface adequately in the first innings and came up short with the bat on both occasions. They will have some serious reflecting to do and will have to regroup themselves and come back stronger for the second Test!
Aiden Markram, Player of the Match - It's always nice to get a test match victory! It was nice to get back to the opening slot and the coach and captain backed me. Ultimately we all want to score runs and happy that I could contribute. I'm happy that we as a batting unit managed to get a good amount of runs on the board. The surface was quite hard to bat on as it kept quickening up throughout the Test match. It was a bit up and down and there was also some lateral movement for the bowlers. It's always hard for the batters to adjust to such conditions and get the runs on the board.
Temba Bavuma (South Africa captain): This is what we came to do, our bowlers did well. It went crazy in the end, almost down to the wire but our bowlers stuck to our plans and defended that total in the end. We didn't put up more partnerships except for Markram and Elgar, I thought 300 would've been a good total but 250 ended up being just enough. We will rest well and then come prepared for the next game.
Kraigg Brathwaite (West Indies captain): I think as a batting unit we didn't do well, just over 100 overs in both the innings, we should've batted 90 overs in the first innings. Some balls were keeping low, some were getting more bounce at the same spot, the bowlers had more. Well, I thought we did a good job, the first two sessions, batted extremely well and the bowlers pulled it back together, but with the bat we just weren't good enough and that was the difference in the end, as batters we got to improve. There's not much you can do, can have some discussions, training sessions but it's all about in the middle that you can make the difference, we got to be more clear, which balls to leave or play, it's all about mental thing, we got starts but didn't convert it.
West Indies 159 all out in 41 overs Jermaine Blackwood 79(93) | Kagiso Rabada 6/50 Jason Holder 18(20) | Marco Jansen 2/33
What an amazing win for South Africa and they've made a real statement here! It took them only an hour after tea to clean things up and that has been courtesy a monumental effort by their premier fast bowler Kagiso Rabada! He kept toiling hard and bowled 8 overs on the trot and was relentless in being able to bowl in the right channels. Anrich Nortje backed him up with a wicket too although he was a bit wayward at times.
West Indies started off the session on a really good note as they came out with a positive mindset! Holder and Blackwood got off the blocs quickly and attacked both Rabada and Nortje in particular. However, Rabada bowled an absolute ripper to get him and from there West Indies didn't really recover. They lost the final three wickets within 30 runs.
Jermaine Blackwood was the lone warrior for them with the bat as he battled hard and for a while kept them in the game. He was aggressive against the seamers and attacked anything that was in the good length area. He took on Rabada and smashed him for quite a few fours straight down the ground before the latter dismissed him with an unplayable short ball. His innings of 79 was the only shining light for the Windies in an otherwise dismal performance.
Overall, the Proteas will be thrilled to have put on such a clinical performance! They have gone 1-0 up in the series and have taken an unassailable lead. Their batters put on an above par total in a low scoring game and the bowlers did a brilliant job in bundling out the Windies in less than 100 overs in both the innings. They will be on a high as they move on to Johannesburg from here on.
South Africa win the first test by 87 runs!

40.6 Kagiso Rabada to Kemar Roach, OUT! RAPPED ON THE PADS AND GIVEN! That looked stone-dead and that's the game for South Africa as they go 1-0 up in the series. Rabada finishes with a six-for. Back of a length, shapes into Roach on the stumps. Gets behind to play but misses as that raps on the pad and looking good to crash into middle stump.
Kemar Roach lbw Kagiso Rabada 12(18b 2x4 0x6)
40.5 Kagiso Rabada to Shannon Gabriel, low full toss, well outside the off-stump. Gabriel pats it to mid-on and gets off the mark with a single.
40.4 Kagiso Rabada to Shannon Gabriel, OH DEAR! Gabriel gets into an awkward position. Was short into him, didn't get up as much as he anticipated and he goes half-ducking under it, ends up getting hit on the bat at the chest height.
40.3 Kagiso Rabada to Shannon Gabriel, back of a length delivery, angling into Gabriel on the leg-stump. Goes on the backfoot to tuck it but misses, that thuds on the thigh.
40.2 Kagiso Rabada to Shannon Gabriel, OH! Length delivery on the fifth stump. Asks Gabriel to take him on who throws kitchen sink at it and misses.
40.2 Kagiso Rabada to Shannon Gabriel, back of a length delivery, shapes into Gabriel. Stays on the backfoot and defends it to short-leg fielder. Rabada oversteps and it's called a no-ball!
Shanon Gabriel, RHB, comes to the crease.
FIFER FOR RABADA! Bavuma gave him another over and he has delivered and this is the massive wicket of Blackwood! The proteas will be breathing a lot easier now. Spare of thought for the batter who fought alone in this innings.
40.1 Kagiso Rabada to Jermaine Blackwood, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN AT SECOND SLIP! Rabada gets another over and there it is with his fifer and that pretty much is the game as well for South Africa. Nasty bumper, takes Blackwood by surprise which he couldn't keep it down. Hops on his toes as that shoots of the deck and takes the gloves, went straight to Markram who takes a comfortable catch.
Wayward start from Marco Jansen! He was all over the place in that over and the batters didn't have any trouble in dealing with him. West Indies are building a good partnership here.

39.6 Marco Jansen to Kemar Roach, back of a length but on the leg-stump line. Roach on the backfoot clipped it behind square, they scamper back for a couple.
39.5 Marco Jansen to Kemar Roach, OH! Short delivery but off-radar again. Was down the leg-side and Roach goes ducking under it to let it go.
