Commentary

That will be all from Abhishek and Bala on behalf of Sportskeeda as Sri Lanka win the dress rehearsal of 2022 Asia Cup Final. But don't go anywhere as we will be back for the finals on Sunday to be played by the same teams. Plenty of cricketing action to follow tomorrow as we have the finals of ECS Belgium series alongside Day 3 of England vs South Africa. Hopefully, we should see some ball coming on to the bat after the first two days were called off due to rain and mourning of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Later on the day, we will also be covering the Road Safety Series and the England Women vs India Women T20I. Bye bye and take care!

Wanindu Hasaranga (Man of the Match): That's how I try to play (give my best with the ball and in the field). In the last few games, I conceded a lot of runs. So, my aim was to restrict runs this time. In the first two overs, I try to bowl dot balls. That's why I am able to take three wickets from four overs.

Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka captain): I always love accepting this kind of presents (in bowling). Because of the combinations we have, left arm fast bowling and leg spinner bowling googlies and Theekshana bowling carrom balls, it can trouble any team in the world. Extras have been a concern. The line bowled by our pacers in the final overs is also a concern.

Babar Azam (Pakistan captain): We played well in the first half but in the second half, we were not able to maintain well. Pakistan have already produced great fast bowlers. So the early wickets were not surprises. Yes, we have taken note of our mistakes and will improve on that in the final.

Pathum Nissanka: Because of the three wickets early, managed to play the normal game, wanted to see the new ball through and be there at the end. Although there was extra pace, backed his skill and helped me in the middle. This will help us to keep the momentum (going) and will help us going into the final.

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by five wickets and 18 balls to spare!

The game was almost done and dusted when Sri Lanka restricted Pakistan to a score of 121. After surviving an early scare from Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain, Pathum Nissanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa steadied the ship by staying in the crease for 39 deliveries. While Nissanka went on to complete his half-century, Rajapaksa and Shanaka went back to the pavilion before reaching the 30 run mark.

Sri Lanka went full throttle against Usman Qadir and Hasan Ali while rotating the strike against Mohammad Nawaz in the middle. Haris and Hasnain should have carried on for another over inside the powerplay but their late inclusion meant the Lankan Lions got some breathing space.

Earlier in the game, Pakistan's middle and lower order crumbled like a pack of cards after slow starts from Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, and Mohammad Rizwan failed to set the tone for the rest of the innings. Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga were the destructors in chief by sharing five wickets amongst themselves while part-timer Dhananjaya de Silva notched his four overs by conceding only 18 runs.
