A comfortable victory for the hosts as they put in a clinical display across departments. They'll want to make it a habit against a fine New Zealand side that'll be itching to bounce back at this same venue in a couple of days' time. All in all, the series has been set up as well as it possibly could have.
Nicholas Pooran (West Indies Captain): Coming to the Kensington Oval, you look at the surface and it was a little bit dry playing against Australia last year. We know that three spinners is a good idea in the Caribebean as well and it's about giving the guys an opportunity, taking the risk and hoping it works. Glad that the gamble paid off. (On the performance of the debutant spinners) These guys are playing their first game and they played really well. They bowled really well under pressure in their first ODI game. I think Yannic was brilliant. The Caribbean people want a leg-spinner in the team and he bowled really well. Happy that he was able to contribute today. We knew it was going to be tricky for sure with Boult and Southee swinging the ball. Shamarh Brooks has been batting well throughout the year and it was about one big partnership to get us over the line. I think Brooky and I won the game for us with that stand. It was great to get some points today.
Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): I thought there was a big effort. Obviously it was very challenging to get some momentum and rhythm but credit to the West Indies to get the best out of the surface and play very well. It was tough - you always want more (on the board) but having said that at the halfway stage it could have been competitive. Credit to the way the West Indies batted, they didn't give too much and we didn't execute as well. It's about rolling our sleeves up as well as possible and putting in an improved performance (next game). It's sort of the way it goes - it didn't go our way today but it was good for guys to get overs under their belt. Hopefully we can execute nicely going ahead and play better.

West Indies win the game by 5 wickets and 11 overs to spare. This is a convincing win for them after having performed well with both bat and ball on the field. Shamarh Brooks almost guided the team to win before perishing towards the fag end of the innings playing a wonderful knock of 79 chasing a total of 191.

West Indies will be pretty happy with their batting effort especially from Shamarh Brooks. Shai Hope got a good start but fell to rash shot at the start. Nicholas Pooran had a good partnership with Brooks and that set the match for them while Holder and Jermaine Blackwood saw their team home without any further hiccups.

New Zealand must be disappointed with their bowling as they failed to execute their plans when it was necessary. Leaking runs upfront never really bodes well while defending a small total and they were behind the eight ball immediately. Although they managed to get 3 wickets but failed to continue the same turning the match in West Indies favour.

All in all, West Indies are now 1-0 up in the series and take a lot of confidence from this win after having few close games against India in the previous series. They will look to close down the series winning the upcoming game.
Shamarh Brooks is the Player of the Match for his 91-ball 79. Hear from the man: Watching the Kiwis bat we realized it was a bit tough going early for them. Credit must go to the bowlers to restrict them to 190. I had to go out there and get a partnership going. The wicket wasn't the easiest to bat on - the longer you spent out there, the easier it got. It's a very big thing - we've been doing well in this format coming off (the series) against India. We're feeling confident and we just want the guys to go from strength to strength. (On his partnership with Pooran) We just wanted to put our eggs together. We know Nicky plays a lot of shots but it was quite good in the end.
