An entertaining semifinal of the 2024 Copa America between Argentina and Canada come to an end as La Albiceleste progress to the final. Goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi were enough to end a dream run for Canada in this tournament. it was a very professional performance from Lionel Scaloni's men whereas Canada did put up a good fight and came close to scoring multiple times. They will now aim to defend their Copa America title since Chile achieved the feat in 2016.

90+1' HOW DID CANADA NOT SCORE THERE?

Another huge opportunity falls Oluwaseyi's way as he receives a free head from a beautiful cross by Osorio. The forward messes up the header and it goes wide. He only had Martinez to beat in goal. 

90' HUGE CHANCE!!! A massive opportunity for Canada to score a consolation as a sloppy pass from Lisandro sees Millar get the ball, who plays it in space for Oluwaseyi. The forward hammered his shot on target but Martinez somehow keeps it out from danger. 

88' Molina becomes the latest player to get into the referee's book. 

87' It has been a professional performance for Argentina in the semifinal. They have done enough to go through to the finals once again. Meanwhile, credit to Canada for reaching the semifinals in their first-ever Copa America appearance. They were in a very tricky group with Argentina, Peru and Chile but they managed to finish second to reach the knockouts was a big achievement in itself. 

85' Excellent buildup for Canada as Millar plays the ball in the middle from the left flank. He then gets the ball back in a central area and unleashes a cross to find Larin in the penalty area. But the cross is overhit and it goes out for a goal-kick. 

82' Canada have suffered from lack of quality in the final third. They have broken down the Argentina backline multiple times but the final delivery has evaded them. 

79' Yellow card for Kone as he gets into a tussle with De Paul. He brought him to the ground and then he spoke a few words which wasn't taken kindly by the referee. He also books Canada coach Jesse Marsch for dissent. 

78' Three changes for Argentina as Lautaro Martinez, Nico Gonzalez and Palacios come on replacing Mac Allister, Alvarez, and Di Maria. 

77' Crazy scenes at the MetLife Stadium as more than 80,000 people have gathered to watch the 2024 Copa America semifinal between Argentina and Canada. 

75' Canada get another opening as the ball gets pinballed in the penalty area and falls kindly for Millar but the Argentina defenders close down brilliantly before the Canadian could get his shot away. 

73' Di Maria has been a livewire for Argentina in this match. Even during the 73rd minute, the veteran winger is wriggling his way past Canadian defenders. However, his final delivery was overhit for Alvarez. 

71' A couple of changes for Canada aswell as Davies is unable to continue after that challenge and Osorio is replacing him. Meanwhile, Choiniere has replaced Eustaquio. 

70' Nahuel Molina comes on for Gonzalo Montiel as Scaloni aim to freshen things up. 

70' Alphonso Davies is down with an injury. He had a tussle with Montiel and since then he has been walking gingerly. 

66' Canada are throwing bodies forward and Martinez sees an opportunity to counter as he launches the ball forward for Alvarez to run in behind. But Crepeau read it well and cleared it away. 

65' Marsch makes another change as Oluwaseyi replace David upfront for Canada.

63' Eustaquio gets into the referee's book following a horrible challenge on Rodrigo de Paul. 

61' ALMOST! Another brilliant ball from midfield finds Alvarez in space, who makes a mazy run into the box but his effort on target was too tame to trouble Crepeau. 

60' Canada break forward with a lot of purpose as Ahmed drives it on the right flank. But Cuti Romero was brilliant in thwarting away the danger. he was extremely decisive under pressure. 

54' A couple of changes for Canada as Ali Ahmed and Liam Millar replace Richie Laryea and Jacob Shaffelburg. 

53' Canadian players claim for offside but after VAR checks it is clear that Messi was well and truly in an onside position and the goal will stand. 

51' GOOOOOAAAAALLLL!! ARGENTINA DOUBLE THE LEAD!!

A beautifully worked short corner as Messi finds De Paul in space, who tries to cut it back to Messi, but it is intercepted by Kone. His clearance falls kindly for Enzo Fernandez right at the edge of the penalty area. Enzo's shot takes a touch off Messi before beating Crepeau in goal.  

48' A good spell of possession to begin the second-half for Canada but once again they failed to get the final ball.

HALF TIME: Argentina 1-0 Canada

That's the first 45 minutes from the first semifinal of the 2024 Copa America as Argentina are 1-0 ahead of Canada, courtesy of a Julian Alvarez goal. La Albiceleste have had their chances but they were massively indecisive with their final ball near the final third. They need to push more bodies forward, attack the ball into the penalty area in the upcoming 45 minutes. On the other hand, Canada have had their chances in the game on the counter. The likes of Alphonso Davies, Richie Laryea and Jonathan David have been the standout players for Canada. 

45+1' HUGE SAVE! A good move for Canada against the run of play sees David find the ball in the penalty area and his effort forces Emiliano Martinez to come up with a quick-reaction save. The Argentine backline were caught napping but Martinez bailed them out like always.

44' HUGE OPPORTUNITY FOR ARGENTINA!! 

Di Maria finds space on the right as he drives a ball into the box intending to find Alvarez or Messi in the area. The former leaves the ball for Messi, who controls it well but his subsequent effort goes wide. 

42' Argentina's gameplay has been good overall but they lacked the final ball. They have rushed their choices in decisive positions. 

38' Argentina are again bringing down the tempo as they wait for the half-time whistle. Meanwhile, Canada have been scrappy in possession in the first 30 minutes of the game. 

34' DI MARIA ALMOST SCORES THE SECOND FOR ARGENTINA!!

A fantastic free-kick from midfield finds Di Maria in space on the right flank. Davies thought he would reach the ball but after misjudging it, he was in no position to stop Di Maria. However, the winger's effort was wide off-target.

32' Yellow card for Jonathan David as he takes down Cuti Romero unfairly. The defender stays on the ground with pain. 

30' After scoring the goal, Scaloni's men have slowed down the pace of the game. They are casually moving the ball and retaining possession. 

27' The Canada backline were completely off-guard as De Paul came up with that pass and he found Alvarez in space. They need to pick themselves up as they aim to chase the game. Before conceding, Canada had their glimpses of brilliance. 

23' GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!! ARGENTINA ARE AHEAD IN THE SEMIFINAL!!

Julian Alvarez has broken the deadlock for Argentina after a very nervy first 20 minutes. A beautiful run from the Manchester City man was picked up brilliantly by Rodrigo de Paul from midfield. Alvarez controls the ball precisely, gets ahead of Bombito and then calmly slots it past Crepeau. Argentina 1-0 Canada

18' Another good break forward for Canada as Laryea finds space on the right flank but runs out of space and concedes a goal-kick. Larin was in position on the box waiting for a cross. 

17' A good move for Canada as Davies breaks forward and plays in Larin in space in the penalty area. He tries to wrestle for possession against Cuti Romero and his subsequent square pass was slightly overhit for Davies, who was purposely entering the box. 

15' A great dink pass from Messi was directed towards the on-rushing Julian Alvarez in the penalty area. It is slightly overhit and Crepeau collects it with ease. 

14' Alphonso Davies has done decently for Canada on the left flank. He is trying his best to contain Di Maria and also trying to create some attack for Jesse Marsch's men. 

12' ALMOST!! An excellent buildup for Argentina as Di Maria drives the ball forward on the right flank before he finds Messi in space at the edge of the penalty box. His shot goes whistling wide off the target.
