A brilliant display from Argentina as they dominated possession and created most of the chances. They finally got the decisive goal through Lautaro Martinez in the 88th minute. Chile held their defensive shape brilliantly and were well supported by their veteran goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. However, they were unimaginative going forward apart from a couple of counter-attacks. Overall, a good performance from Argentina as this result help them to reach the knockouts.
Argentina breaks on a counter-attack as Di Maria drives it forward before combing with Lautaro who forces Bravo to come up with a spectacular save. It was destined to be the second goal if not Bravo.
A brilliantly worked corner from Messi and Chilean defenders didn't clear their lines properly as the ball pinballs to Lautaro in the far post, who slots it past Bravo with precision. Argentina finally got their goal after relentless pressure on Chile.
Chile break forward with Isla providing width on the right and he sends in a brilliant cross into the box which finds Echeverria again. He comes up with another thumping effort but Martinez saves it with aplomb. Two big saves from the Argentina goalkeeper as Chile are growing into this game.
Angel Di Maria and Lautaro Martinez come in for Nico Gonzalez and Julian Alvarez
A rare good buildup from Chile as Davila plays it wide to Isla who runs to the touchline and then sends it into the box. The ball is not cleared properly and Echeverria comes up with a vicious effort which forces Martinez to come up with a good save.
An excellent dink pass from Lo Celso as he finds Messi, who gets in behind the Chilean defence. However, his effort was way off target. Later, the linesman raises his flag for offside.
A beautiful move from Nico as he cuts in on his right and moves past a couple of Chilean defenders before taking a telling effort. Bravo gets a touch before it hits the post and goes out. Argentina have hit the post for the second time in this match.
A bright start to the second half from Argentina as Tagliafiaco plays Enzo in space, who finds Alvarez in the middle. The Manchester City striker holds the ball up and plays Messi in space. Messi finds the on-rushing Molina on the right. However, his subsequent shot was kept out by Bravo.
The first 45 minutes were dominated by Argentina as they controlled possession and have had an array of efforts from different range on the field. Messi came the closest when he struck the post with a long-range effort. Meanwhile, Nico Gonzalez with his pace has also troubled the Chilean defenders. He created a brilliant opening for Alvarez, who failed to convert it. While Argentina have not tested Bravo properly, they have had their chances. Meanwhile Chile were good defensively but they have been clueless going forward.
Just as we speak about his fitness, the great man has come up with a fantastic shot from distance and unfortunately, it kisses the post on its way out. It was a good buildup from the right before De Paul held the ball up brilliantly and played Messi in space in the middle. Argentina are gaining momentum.
First real opportunity of the game falls to Julian Alvarez, who had a pretty easy chance to score. Enzo initiates the buildup and picks Nico Gonzalez on the left who beats his man and then delivers a sensational low cross for Alvarez, who fails to generate enough power to beat Bravo in goal.
