That's all from Sportskeeda's coverage of the nail-biting clash between Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City. This is Sayantan and I hope you'll return for tomorrow's coverage of the match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Chennaiyin FC.
Till then, let's football!
This has arguably been the best game we've witnessed so far in the ISL. Both teams gave their all to come away with the three points in the opening match. But that was not to be. Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City FC had to share the spoils after playing out a frantic 3-3 draw.
While in the initial exchange it seemed like the Islanders would be cruising through, the defending champions had other plans. Joao Victor canceled out MCFC's 23rd-minute goal in the dying moments of the first half.
The second half evolved into an end-to-end encounter as Halicharan Narzary put HFC ahead early on. But Greg Stewart sprinkled a bit of magic dust into the game as he leveled the scores with a classy goal. In the 77th minute, Joao added his second of the night and Hyderabad FC's third but the game had one final twist left. Substitute Alberto Noguera tucked home a mistimed effort from Stewart to restore parity and seal the draw.
FULL-TIME: Hyderabad FC 3-3 Mumbai City FC
90' Four minutes to be added.
83' GOALS GALORE AS MUMBAI ARE BACK LEVEL!
Football, oh my football! Bipin Singh receives the ball in the opposition box and plays it to Greg Stewart, whose attempted shot felt kindly for Alberto Noguera, who made a great run into the second post and tucked home the equalizer. It's 3-3 now. Little more than five minutes left and there's nothing to separate the two sides.
81' Substitution for HFC: Hitesh Sharma is replaced by Sahil Tavora.
77' THE NIZAMS LEAD!
This is one frantic game of football. Hyderabad win a corner and Odei Onaindia does well with his head to caress the cross towards the path of Joao Victor. The skipper has an open net to aim and he doesn't falter. A brace for the Brazilian midfielder on the night.
76' SO, SO CLOSE!
Borja Herrera delivers a delicious cross into the box but Phurba punches it into Rahul Bheke. The rebound could've very well ended in the back of the net. Bheke is left furious!
70' The game is opening up as both sides are hungry for three points here. Neither of them ready to leave even an inch of space.
67' MAGIC FROM GREG STEWART!
Mumbai City FC call for a saviour and the saviour does arrive. Ahmed Jahouh does well to win the ball outside the opposition box and he plays Stewart through. The Scot breezed past a helpless Sana Singh and calmly tucked the ball home.
60' Substitution for Hyderabad FC: Joel Chianese goes down grabbing his hamstring and is replaced by new signing Borja Herrera.
57' Substitutions for Mumbai City FC: The trio of Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Mourtada Fall, and Vinit Rai is replaced by Alberto Noguera, Ahmed Jahouh, and Mehtab Singh.
55' BIG SAVE!
A defensive error from Poojary sets Bipin Singh through on goal, but the Hyderabad FC shot-stopper makes himself big and keeps the Nizams in the lead.
51' Hyderabad FC respond and how!
Joel Chianese does well to win the ball in the middle of the park and sets Yasir through. The young HFC winger does well to pick out Halicharan Narzary, unmarked on the left flank, and he doesn't miss. Nizams are ahead now and Des Buckingham will have a lot of thinking to do.
46' SECOND HALF IS UNDERWAY!
HALF-TIME: Hyderabad FC 1-1 Mumbai City FC
45+3' HYDERABAD FC EQUALIZE!
Joao Victor has tucked in the penalty with ease, sending Phurba the wrong way. Out of nowhere, the scores are level and the champions are roaring again.
45+2' DRAMA YET AGAIN TONIGHT!
A penalty awarded to Hyderabad FC after a foul by Apuia Ralte on Bart Ogbeche inside the Mumbai box.
38' Hyderbad FC have looked out of depth throughout the initial part of the game. Meanwhile, Mumbai are completely in control of the proceedings.
28' Mourtada Fall receives the first yellow card of the night for his challenge on Mohammad Yasir.
23' MUMBAI CITY FC TAKE THE LEAD!
A Mourtada Fall clearance from his own box creates the Islanders' attack before Greg Stewart plays Bipin down the left flank. The young winger drills in a low cross and Sana Singh lunges in with a sliding tackle, but can only deflect the ball into his own net. The center-back could've done very little to prevent the goal as Diaz was ready to pounce on the ball just behind Sana.
16' Chinglensana Singh powerfully heads Joel Chianese's free-kick towards the goal, but Phurba Lachenpa easily catches the ball.
10' Hyderabad FC settling in.
The Nizams are slowly growing into the game as the minutes roll by. They are pressing in the center of the park and trying to catch MCFC off guard.
5' ON THE FRONT FOOT!
Mumbai City FC have had a positive start as Jorge Pereyra Diaz finds himself in space and plays Bipin Singh through. However, the Indian winger's strike is off-target.
1' KICK-OFF!
Hyderabad FC's title defense begins.
A bit of a surprise in the Mumbai City FC lineup. Ahmed Jahouh is on the bench and Des Buckingham has opted to play Apuia Ralte and Vinit Rai in a double pivot. Hyderabad FC will be eyeing to outmuscle and neutralize the Indian pair, using Joao Victor in the middle of the park.
Hyderabad FC and Manolo Marquez are keen to start their ISL 2022-23 campaign off with a flyer against Mumbai City FC. The Nizams have added a few young Indian faces along with some quality foreigners in Borja Herrera and Odei Onaindia. Meanwhile, the Islanders are in the hopes of retaining their status as one of the top sides in the competition. They have added the likes of Greg Stewart, Alberto Noguera, and Jorge Pereyra Diaz to their squad.
A key battle in the middle of the park will be between HFC's Joao Victor and MCFC's Ahmed Jahouh. Who will come out on top? Only a brave man would pick a side.
