It was a fantastic clash between two very evenly matched boxers but in the end, it was the defence of Amit that proved to be the difference as Carlo Paalam has to settle for BRONZE. Now it will be India vs Uzbekistan in the battle for GOLD in the Men's Light Fly 49kg.

That now means that India are assured of at least a SILVER and he will now face Hasanboy Dusmatov to see who can win GOLD.

Close but no cigar for Carlo Paalam

And it is Amit who lands the last few punches but it was a very, very close fight.

It was all boiling up to the perfect crescendo but now there is just time for one big shot.

The ref asks for him to get that right. Now just 10 seconds left.

Just 30 seconds left and the tape on Paalam's gloves are loose.

Amit knows that he needs to do more if he wants to force a win and after he lands a perfect punch to the side, the Indian crowd erupt.

It has swung back and forth so far in the third round and has been an entertaining watch.

Paalam has been sloppy defensively and that always gives his opponents a chance and Amit needs to make that count.

Amit getting his groove back now. After hanging on in the first round, he is slowly coming into his own.

Amit goes on the defensive early but it is all about finishing strong. Who will manage to do that?

It is still Carlo Paalam's bout to lose. He has been simply sensational so far as the third and final round begins.

Paalam has thrown several outstanding punches so far but Amit has done far better in the second round.

There is a slight delay as Amit's laces are untied and he has to get them right before we can begin again. And that takes away some crucail momentum.

Just under a minute left in the second period and Amit is doing his best but Paalam continues to stay sharp.

Paalam has certainly got Amit out of his comfort zone and the Indian is having to work extra hard for every successful punch.

Both boxers now trying to put on a show and Paalam catches Amit with a good left hand with just under two minutes left in the second round.

And we are back underway for the second round. And this time Amit goes on the offensive early and it is Paalam who has to defend.

Amit has been extremely defensive so far in the first round but right towards the end, he finds a spring in his step and starts to attack a little more.

The referee has a few words with Amit, who is keen to just evade any punches and is keen on stick to the ropes.

Paalam continues to go on the offensive and Amit has to be content with just defending at the outset with just over a minute gone in the first period.

Carlo Paalam goes on the offensive early and wants to pick up some points early in the contest.

The bell rings and here we go.

Both boxers are in the ring and the bout is all set to get underway.

And that is all over Dusmatov is through to the final. Now Amit walks out to the ring to see if he can join him in the final.

The other semi-final between Uzbekistan's Hasanboy Dusmatov and China's Zhonglin Wu is underway.

There was some bad news for India at the start of the day as Vikas Krishnan had to pull out of his bout because he was medically unfit. Now India's hopes of a Gold or Silver in boxing rests with Amit Panghal.

UPDATE: Two Indian boxers were supposed to compete for a spot in the final in their respective category but that is now down to one. Vikas Krishnan has pulled out of the semi-final after being deemed medically unfit. He received a nasty cut above his left eye during his quarter-final win over China’s Erbieke Tanglatihan on Wednesday. That now means that he will settle for BRONZE.

As we approach the twilight of the Asian Games 2018, India are eyeing two major milestones. The games in Jakarta have put India on the brink of not only breaking their record of most GOLD medals at an Asian Games but also the tally of most medals overall at a single games.

Going into the penultimate day of action, India are already assured of quite a few medals but will be looking to add to that. Especially after a sensational day in Athletics on day 12, which saw India win GOLD in the Men's 1500, Women's 4x400m relay and SILVER in the Men's 4x400m and BRONZE in the Women's 1500m and the Discus Throw.

That meant that India ended their track and field leg of the Asian Games with a whopping 19 medals, including seven GOLD, 10 SILVER and two BRONZE medals.
