Action continues on Day 6 of the multi-sporting extravaganza -- The 2018 Asian Games.
Day five ended more with a whimper, rather than a bang. On what was a disappointing day for India, several participants lost their matches in the final stages. Ankita Raina (WR 189) bagged a Bronze medal as she went down against Zhang Shuai (WR 34). She fought valiantly against the Chinese Number eventually lost 6-4, 7-6(6). Meanwhile, the Men's doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan made it to the Final of the event and are have ensured at least a Silver medal for India.
India's 15-year-old shooter Shardul Vihan also bagged a Silver in the Men's Double Trap Final and took the total tally to 17. There was also progression in other racquet sports, as badminton squash, and indeed Tennis saw Indian athletes advance. However, India's loss to Iran in the Men's Kabaddi Semifinal was completely unprecedented and historic in a wrong sense for India! There were also losses in Archery and Weightlifting.
Day 6 started on a positive note as the Rowers made the nation proud! India's team of Sawarn Singh, Daatu Bhokanal, Daatu Bhokanal, and Sukhmeet Singh won GOLD Men's Quadruple Sculls. Dushyant also bagged a Bronze medal for India in Rowing - Men's Lightweight Single Sculls.
Tennis action continues on Day 6. The Indian Men's Doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan have had an incredible campaign so far with some nail-biting encounter. They were up against the doubles pair of hosts Indonesia in the inaugual match (Round of 32) and eased past them.
In the Round of 16, they defeated Thailand's N Kadchapanan and W Trongcharoenchaikul 6-3, 6-1.
Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Cheng-peng and Yang Tsung-hua gave the Indian duo a tough fight in the quarters but the latter ultimately won 6-3, 5-7, 10-1. The SEMIS against Japan's Sho Shimabukuro and Kaito Uesugi was a breathtaking match. The Indians pair lost the first set yet they made a stunning comeback to win 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
