A couple of tweets before we end this.

But spare a thought for Jamal Musiala - the youngster was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. He had eight shots in the match with two of them hitting the post. His dribbling and close control was a sight to behold but unfortunately he has to exit at the group stage. But he has time on his side and we will see plenty of him in the future. A definite world-class talent to keep an eye out on.

FULL-TIME! Costa Rica 2 Germany 4. Germany are out despite winning 4-2. They led through an early goal before a comeback from Costa Rica saw them go ahead. But Havertz came on and delivered the killer blows to help his side to a win but it was not enough in the end.

Havertz now floats one to Fullkrug on the back stick but the striker's header lands on the roof of the net.

A floated ball over the top from the right and Sane is onside as Costa Rica push up, he chests it to Fullkrug for the easiest of tap-ins. It was disallowed for offside initially but then VAR got involved and the decision is overturned.

Havertz is in for his hat-trick but Navas saves a powerful shot and then catches Gotze's follow-up header.

I'm not sure my heart will take this for another 10 minutes or so. Unreal. Crazy and utter madness this group is.

A teasing cross from the right and Havertz at the back stick comes around his man and then from close range controls the finish as he places it past Navas. That is two for Havertz and heartbreak for Costa Rica.

From about 4 yards Fullkrug is destined to score as he side-foots but Navas somehow pushes it over the bar when it was almost impossible to do so. He took that on his face and lies flat on the ground but is OK to continue.

GOAL! Kai Havertz in the 72nd minute! Costa Rica 2 Germany 2. This group is utter madness. Now things change again. Havertz with a clever dinked finish as he was onside and that is a calm calm goal to level things. Relief for Spain as that goal gives them the 2nd spot currently. Costa Rica need another one.

GOAL! Juan Pablo Vargas in the 70th minute! Costa Rica 2 Germany 1. VAR are checking though. GOAL given! Look at the faces of the Costa Rican supporters in the stands - grown men and women crying. A free-kick from the left and after a scramble, Vargas somehow turns it in from close range flicking through Neuer's jump. Costa Rica in dreamland.

MUSIALA HITS THE POST FOR GERMANY! Again! This is legendary stuff this game. Musiala on the inside-left channel tries to curl one in to the far-post with Navas beaten but the ball ricochets off the post and away. Musiala again denied by the post.

Fine fine ball from Raum from the left but no-one from the German side attacks it in the middle. That was waiting to be tapped in.

Germany will have to push further up and that means Costa Rica will have chances at the other end. Remember one more goal from them and they will go through.

Two more chances for Germany but Muller and Rudiger fail to finish from close range. This is getting spicier by the minute.

MUSIALA HITS THE POST FOR GERMANY! Sensational stuff from Musiala on the left, he has Fullkrug free on the far-post but opts to take the shot on and beats Navas but it hits the post and goes off. So so close.

GOAL! Yeltsin Tejeda in the 58th minute! Costa Rica 1 Germany 1. This group is crazy! Now Costa Rica equalise. An error from Neuer as he spills a header straight at him and Yeltsin Tejeda is the one who is quickest to react to sweep it in before any German defenders can get their feet across to clear. Sensational stuff but poor poor goalkeeping.

Germany make a change: Ilkay Gundogan is off, Niclas Fullkrug is on.

Meanwhile Japan have scored twice and currently lead Spain 2-1 - which means Germany are going out as it stands.

Both sides make changes at half-time: Goretzka swaps out for Lukas Klostermann, while Brandon Aguilera makes way for Youstin Salas.

HALF-TIME! Costa Rica 0 Germany 1. It was all Germany till 40 minutes as Gnabry's goal put them ahead. They dominated after that but in the last 5 minutes, their defence creaked a little and Costa Rica have shown that they can threaten an equaliser. A fascinating second half awaits.

Leroy Sane on his left-foot blazes it way over. Needed to have worked Navas there.

Germany are rocking a bit at the back now. Sule kicks at thin air to a cross from the left but a Costa Rican attacker fails to control cleanly and hte chance goes.

WHAT A SAVE FROM NEUER! Almost a calamity for Germany at the back. Raum and Rudiger fail to deal with a long ball from behind and allow Keysher Fuller to go in and he lashes it at goal - it is going in but Neuer produces a world-class save to palm it over. Imagine if that had gone in.

A Mexican wave erupts inside the stadium as Gnabry almost makes it 2-0. He turns and sends the shot just wide of the far-post with Navas beaten. Didn't have the curl to go in.

Germany keep knocking on the door. Kimmich's long-range shot is not caught cleanly but Navas recovers to clutch it. Then Musiala with a lovely reception of the ball and turn but his attempt at placing it into the far corner goes wide.

Relentless pressure from Germany and Costa Rica are just surviving for now.

Leon Goretzka ghosts in from behind and meets the cross on his head but Navas saves.

What a chance for Muller as he is unmarked but his header is wide of the far-post.

Amazing skill from Musiala to weave his way past 4 defenders inside the penalty box but he tries to do too much in the end and the chance goes.

The flag goes up for offside even as Serge Gnabry's shot is saved by Navas.

Early chance for Germany as Jamal Musiala cuts in on the inside-left channel and curls a shot low, Navas dives to push it away.
