A clinical performance from Barcelona, who have started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a resounding win. They thoroughly outplayed a depleted Juventus and it was one man - Lionel Messi - who made all the difference, scoring his first and second goal against Buffon while also providing the chance on a plate to Rakitic.

Juventus outplayed Barcelona in the first leg of their quarter final tie last season and the Catalan giants - sans Neymar - have returned the favour. This all sets us up for an exciting second game in Turin later in the year.

Juventus try to threaten Barcelona but fail to conjure something of note.

89' Yelow Card: Caligara is booked within 2 minutes of coming on for a cynical foul from behind.

Barcelona are happy recycling possession as they wind the clock down. Juventus don't seem too eager either.

87' Substitution: 17-year-old Fabrizio Caligara comes on in place of Gonzalo Higuain.

The corner comes to nothing as it is cleared out for a throw in by Bernardeschi. From the throw in, Barcelona string a couple of passes together before the game is brought to a halt as the ball goes out.

85' Barcelona win a corner after Paulinho forced Sandro to take the ball behind.

83' Substitution: Andre Gomes comes on as Andres Iniesta is being withdrawn.

Pique then makes an excellent goal line clearance to deny Juventus.

81' Dybala forces Ter Stegen into making a good save. The Argentine had the ball on the edge of the box and he tries to curl it into the bottom corner but an excellent save from the German denied him.

Alba squared a ball to Suarez in the middle and it squirms underneath Buffon to fall into the path of the Uruguayan, who taps home after some thought.

Still 3-0. That looked like a goal but the assistant had his flag up and correctly so.

78' GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! Barcelona make it 4! Suarez scores. OHH No he doesn't. The referee has ruled out the goal for offside.

77' Substitution: Paulinho comes on to replace Rakitic.

76' Pjanic plays one to Dybala down the right, the Argentine passes it to Bernardeschi with his first touch, whose poor shot goes into the hands of Ter Stegen.

74' Yellow Card: Pjanic is next to be booked by the referee.

Substitution: Sergi Roberto comes on as Barcelona take off Dembele.

Massimiliano Allegri should make some changes to instill some vigor into his team.

73' Juventus look bereft of ideas as they try to find a way past the Barcelona defence.

Barcelona had lost the first leg against Juventus 3-0 in Turin, and tonight they have returned the favour until now. Can they hold on to it? Will they be able to add to it?

Iniesta plays a ball to Messi down the right, he still has a lot to do, with at least 4 Juventus defenders ahead of him. The Argentine drops his shoulder before cutting in and evading a couple of challenges, he then calmly catches Buffon wrong footed and hits the ball into the far corner.

69' GOOOAAAALLLLL!!!! WHO ELSE BUT LIONEL MESSI! There is no stopping him tonight! That's his 99th goal in European competitions.

66' Suarez goes close. Alba is released down the left and the Spaniard crosses it for Suarez in the middle, the Uruguayan fails to make proper contact and the ball goes over.

64' Bernardeschi gets into the act as soon as he comes on. Juventus have a corner and the ball goes out to the Italian, who attempts a left footed shot from range that had Ter Stegen interested for a while.

63' Substitution: Bentancur is being replaced by Bernardeschi.

61' Messi and Suarez stand over it. It is the 5-time Ballon d'Or winner who connects with his left foot and tries to caress it into the top left corner, however, Buffon palms it away for a corner.

60' Yellow Card: Barzagli fouls Dembele at the edge of the box and goes into the referee's books for it. Great chance for Barcelona.

59' Matuidi brings down Rakitic and Barcelona win a free-kick, surprisingly, no card from the referee.

The ball is played to Messi down the right, the Argentine bursts into the box before trying to pass it towards the back post, Sturaro was there and he tries to clear it but only as far as Rakitic, who pokes it past Buffon to make it 2.

56' GOOOAAAAALLLLL!!! Barcelona make it 2! Rakitic doubles the lead.

54' Yellow Card: Lionel Messi is booked for urging the referee to book Pjanic for a nasty foul.

52' ALMOST A SECOND FOR MESSI! He hadn't scored against Buffon before tonight and it could have been two only now.
Alba squares the ball to Messi, who is just outside the box, the Argentine connects with it first time and curls it past buffon, but it rattles off the upright and goes out only after rebounding off Buffon.

48' Dybala skies a great chance. Sturaro squares one to Dybala in the middle, the Argentine connects with his left foot but sends it well over the ball.

This time Barcelona are playing left to right and Juventus, the opposite.

46' And we are back underway in the second half.

The players are back in the tunnel. Will we score more goals in the second half, I bet we have a couple more at least.

And we are almost ready for the restart.

Lionel Messi capped off what has been a rather dull half with a good goal to spark life into the game. The Argentine had until tonight failed to score against Buffon but not anymore.
Both sides had limited chances and the goalkeepers had literally nothing to do, even Buffon was rooted to his spot as Messi's shot rolled into the back of the net.
Barcelona have the valuable first goal. Will they add to it? Can Juventus mount a comeback?

45' Half-Time: Barcelona 1-0 Juventus

That is the first time that Messi has scored against Gianluigi Buffon in an official game. The Argentine started the move playing a short pass to Suarez on the edge of the box, who didn't hesitate before returning the favour and Messi did the rest, just caressing the ball into the back of the net to break the deadlock.

44' Juventus have a half chance as Higuain and Dybala combine. However, the former Napoli man's shot is deflected behind for a corner. From the resulting corner Juve fail to make anything of note.

43' A weakened Juventus have done a good job of keeping Barcelona at bay. However, both sides have struggled for chances.

41' Substitution: Di Sciglio comes off for Sturraro.

40' Di Sciglio goes down and the ball is kicked out. The former AC Milan man looks unlikely to continue.

38' Messi has been sloppy so far. The Argentine gives the ball away but Barca are able to recover it as Dembele cuts a back pass from Di Sciglio, however, an excellent tackle from Benatia saves Juventus the blushes.

36' Yellow Card: Semedo is booked for a cynical foul on Costa.
