GT vs MI Live Score, IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians by 55 runs in an all round team performance

By Sportskeeda Desk | Last ModifiedApr 25, 2023 23:43 IST

GT vs MI Live Score, IPL 2023, Match 35 Updates: Gujarat Titans have sealed a comprehensive victory over the Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad by a huge margin as both their batters and bowlers clicked. A brilliant turnout with the bat helped GT post 207-6 with half century from Shubman Gill and useful knocks at the death by David Miller and Abhinav Manohar. The bowlers chipped in as well with the spin duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad picking up 5 wickets between them. Mohit Sharma and skipper Hardik Pandya were also amongst the wickets. MI would be highly disappointed with the way they played as only Nehal Wadhera alongside Cam Green were seen scoring formidable runs in a powerful line-up. They have some revision to do before they come back next and their bowling would be a talking point. With this, GT have moved up the table on the 2nd spot while their opponents stay on 7th. Right then, it's been quite a one-sided contest this as the Titans cruise to another win! They'll be brimming with confidence at the halfway stage while MI have been repeating the same mistakes that they've made previously in the season too. Nonetheless, at the halfway mark of the league stages, the tournament is set up beautifully and we are in for a scintillating month of cricketing action ahead! On that note, this is the duo of Maanas Upadhyay and Sooryanarayanan Sesha bidding you adieu! Good night!

23:42 (IST)25 APR 2023

Abhinav Manohar is the Player of the Match for his game-changing 21-ball 42. Here's what he has to say: I'm lucky to be in this franchise. In our net sessions I get to bat as much as I want. It gives me the chance to hit a lot of balls. I'm very happy. I think I'm gifted to time the ball well. To play at this level is special, it feels like a dream. This game I couldn't really go from ball one because of the situation but it was good to go out. The run-rate wasn't too high but it was good to play my game.

23:40 (IST)25 APR 2023

Hardik Pandya (Gujarat Titans captain): That has always been the motto about me playing the sport. I've taken the call more on the situation. Captaincy is something where I always back my instinct and so far it has paid off. Me and Ashish Nehra have a very similar mindset and 99% of the times it pays off. Today we decided to bowl the spinners because their batters like pace. It was just about closing the game early because we lost a couple of close games but today I didn't want to take it deep. Credit to the support staff as well for making him (Abhinav Manohar) bat two hours in the nets. He's batting the best in our side when it comes to death hitting. We are looking forward to more hitting by him.

23:28 (IST)25 APR 2023

Rashid Khan (Gujarat Titans, and holder of the Purple Cap): It's good so far. Just a few things I'm working on and trying to be consistent with my line and length. Happy to get wickets but at the same time need to work on some areas where I don't want to bowl but it's just going there. That's why those first few overs, keeping them quiet (was important). That was the main thing in mind - to hit the right area and mix it up. It's great to have him (Noor Ahmad) inside and share that bowling partnership with him. He joined GT last year and we played U19 together before that. He's working so hard. Last year he was asking a lot of questions even when I was working out in the gym. He wanted to be that much better. I'm so so happy for him that he's delivering and it's great news for GT and also for Afghanistan.

23:25 (IST)25 APR 2023

Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians captain): (Experienced bowlers leaking too many runs) That's a little disappointing. We pretty much had control of the game till about 15 overs. The last few overs went for way too many runs. Just about execution - at that point of time, we just have to execute what's right on that particular pitch. And we failed to do that which is why in the end they got way too many runs. (Reassessing bowling first?) Every team has different strengths. We've got a very good batting lineup so we back ourselves to go out there and achieve the target. We didn't start well. There is a lot of dew so if we had batted well you never know. We came pretty close in the last game while chasing 215. But we didn't start well with the bat and that is not the right thing when you're chasing 200+. You need to create that partnership and bat as long as possible. We didn't have too many batters batting there towards the last few overs.

23:19 (IST)25 APR 2023

Gujarat Titans 207/6 (20) beat Mumbai Indians 152/9 (20) by 55 runs

Shubman Gill 56(34) | David Miller 46(22) | Piyush Chawla 2-34(4)
Nehal Wadhera 40(21) | Noor Ahmad 3-37(4) | Rashid Khan 2-27(4)

Whew! A superlative performance from the Gujarat Titans and they have comprehensively beaten the Mumbai Indians! They have been simply terrific tonight in all departments and the Mumbai side was completely blown away! Playing at home, the Titans have managed to defend a total - something they have not been very good at. It has been as clinical as they would've wanted and the Titans will have gotten a massive boost to their Net Run Rate in the points table.

Chasing 208 runs, MI needed to get off to a flier in the powerplay but they just failed to do that. They could not deal with the swing that was being extracted by the GT pacers and kept searching for the ball as it fizzed past the outside edges. In a bid to increase the run-rate, it was Rohit Sharma who departed and was shortly followed by Kishan, who's agonising stay at the crease was ended by Rashid Khan.

Tilak Varma could not hang around for too long but Green joined hands with Surya to stitch a partnership. However, with the required run-rate on the rise continuously, Green failed to get the better of Noor Ahmad, losing his wicket in the process while Tim David departed for a golden duck, playing a full toss right into the hands of the fielder. Wadhera was mighty impressive while Piyush Chawla chipped in with a few runs. However, all that did was reduce the margin of defeat.

Well, MI have a lot of thinking to do before their next game against RR. They've got plenty of time to go before that and they will have to ponder over the combinations. All seems to be going perfectly for the Gujarat Titans and this takes them to the second position in the points table. They will be pleased with how they've gone so far and have made steady progress towards defending their title.

End of over 20 (8 runs), Mumbai Indians 152/9

Riley Meredith 0(2)
Jason Behrendorff 3(4)
Mohit Sharma 38/2

23:19 (IST)25 APR 2023

19.6 Mohit Sharma to Riley Meredith

SWING AND A MISS! Another cutter on a full length on leg stump as Meredith backs away and swings for the bleachers. Doesn't connect as it keeps low to slant to the keeper and it completes a clinical defense by the defending champions. Gujarat Titans win by 55 runs!

23:18 (IST)25 APR 2023

19.5 Mohit Sharma to Riley Meredith

back of a length delivery on off stump. Meredith backs away to clough his flat-batted attempt to the bowler

23:17 (IST)25 APR 2023

Riley Meredith, RHB, makes his way to the middle

23:17 (IST)25 APR 2023

19.4 Mohit Sharma to Arjun Tendulkar

OUT! THERE GOES ANOTHER! Wide of off stump on a length as he takes pace off. Off the back of the hand and Tendulkar reaches for it to slog it off the toe-end of his bat. Balloons it down the throat of long on where Little makes no mistake and Tendulkar's stay in the middle comes to an end.

Arjun Tendulkar c Joshua Little b Mohit Sharma 13 (9b, 0x4, 1x6)

23:16 (IST)25 APR 2023

19.3 Mohit Sharma to Arjun Tendulkar

Tendulkar reviews for a wide! Off-cutter well outside the off stump on a good length. Tendulkar has a heave across the line as he reaches for it before it keeps low to beat him. Was it too wide though?

Nope. Just inside the tramline as it passes the bat so we move on.

23:15 (IST)25 APR 2023

19.2 Mohit Sharma to Arjun Tendulkar

length delivery outside the off stump. Tendulkar has a wild swing across the line as he skews it to deep backward square leg off the inside edge for a couple of runs. 150 up for Mumbai Indians!

23:14 (IST)25 APR 2023

19.1 Mohit Sharma to Arjun Tendulkar

SIX! BANG! Dug short on middle and leg stump and Tendulkar parks his front foot forward to heave it over square leg. Skied high and equally long as it soars the full distance for six

23:14 (IST)25 APR 2023

Another quiet over and we move towards the inevitable conclusion to this game. It has been a complete all-round showing from the Titans tonight!

23:14 (IST)25 APR 2023

End of over 19 (5 runs), Mumbai Indians 144/8

Arjun Tendulkar 5(5)
Jason Behrendorff 3(4)
Josh Little 18/0

23:14 (IST)25 APR 2023

18.6 Joshua Little to Arjun Tendulkar

full and tailing away on off stump. Tendulkar makes room and pushes the ball to extra cover before retaining strike

23:13 (IST)25 APR 2023

18.5 Joshua Little to Jason Behrendorff

very full and tailing across the off stump. Behrendorff backs away and bunts it down to long off for a run

23:13 (IST)25 APR 2023

18.4 Joshua Little to Arjun Tendulkar

OH! Banged into the track at the stumps. Tendulkar stands tall and cloughs a pull that drops safely into the mid-wicket region for one

23:12 (IST)25 APR 2023

18.3 Joshua Little to Jason Behrendorff

OOH! Nails the yorker on off stump as Behrendorff makes room to drill it to extra cover. He hares across and despite the fielder having a shy at the bowler's end, he fails to connect. Direct hit might have got him though!

23:11 (IST)25 APR 2023

18.2 Joshua Little to Jason Behrendorff

AH! Slower full length delivery outside the off stump. Behrendorff swings with gay abandon but it beats him and keeps low to the keeper

23:11 (IST)25 APR 2023

18.1 Joshua Little to Arjun Tendulkar

dug short on middle and leg stump. Tendulkar gets inside the line of it and helps his pull around the corner without middling it for a single to deep fine leg

23:10 (IST)25 APR 2023

Just a couple of wickets remaining and the Titans will be looking to wrap this up quickly now. Last couple of overs to go too and it has been quite a one-sided contest. Arjun Tendulkar has an opportunity to unleash some shots here.

23:09 (IST)25 APR 2023

End of over 18 (4 runs), Mumbai Indians 139/8

Arjun Tendulkar 2(2)
Jason Behrendorff 1(1)
Mohit Sharma 30/1

23:09 (IST)25 APR 2023

17.6 Mohit Sharma to Arjun Tendulkar

slower full length delivery well outside the off stump. Tendulkar leans forward and gets a leading edge as he throws his wrists into it. Lobs wide of short third man for a single

23:09 (IST)25 APR 2023

17.5 Mohit Sharma to Jason Behrendorff

slower good length delivery just outside the off stump. Behrendorff waits and taps it to backward point before crossing over

23:08 (IST)25 APR 2023

Jason Behrendorff, RHB, walks out to the middle

Eighth wicket down for the Mumbai Indians and Wadhera's explosive cameo comes to an end. He's surely made a case for himself to be promoted up the order, with the way he's played tonight.

23:07 (IST)25 APR 2023

17.4 Mohit Sharma to Nehal Wadhera

PICKS OUT SHORT FINE! Slower full length delivery outside the off stump. Wadhera shuffles across and sits low before tumbling over as he brings out the ramp. The 'falling lap' if it makes sense but with no pace on the ball, it just lobs up before short fine leg pouches it with ease. A good hand though from the very talented Wadhera!
Nehal Wadhera c Md. Shami b Mohit Sharma 40 (21b, 3x4, 3x6)

23:06 (IST)25 APR 2023

A Tendulkar batting for MI, how long has it been since we last saw that?

23:06 (IST)25 APR 2023

17.3 Mohit Sharma to Arjun Tendulkar

back of a length delivery outside the off stump. Tendulkar stands on his toes and brings out a crisp square cut before the sweeper tidies up. Just a single!

23:06 (IST)25 APR 2023

17.2 Mohit Sharma to Nehal Wadhera

slower full length delivery on middle and off stump. Wadhera drags it just behind square on the leg-side and he wants to farm the strike. Tendulkar is having none of it though as he crosses over and forces Wadhera into a run

23:05 (IST)25 APR 2023

Arjun Tendulkar, LHB, walks out to the middle
That was certainly not needed and Piyush Chawla departs, not before having played a good knock. That will be a positive that MI can take into their next game certainly.

23:04 (IST)25 APR 2023

17.1 Mohit Sharma to Piyush Chawla

RUN OUT! That is just a shocker! Off-cutter on a full length outside the off stump. Chawla misjudges the line and shoulders arms but it is comfortably inside the tramline. Wadhera, on the other hand, hares across wanting the strike and Chawla is forced the respond. All Saha does is throw the ball to the bowler who then cheekily removes a lone bail. They have a look upstairs to check if Wadhera crossed over to the other end and if it was indeed, Chawla who is out. That is indeed the case so the latter has to walk back.
Piyush Chawla run out (Wriddhiman Saha/Mohit Sharma) 18 (12b, 1x4, 1x6)

23:03 (IST)25 APR 2023

GT were looking to put a halt on the scoring rate and perhaps pick a few wickets but it is the skipper who fails to hold onto a catch. The duo of Wadhera and Piyush are manoeuvring the ball around nicely. They have 18 deliveries to play with. How many can they get to not let MI's NRR get adversely affected?

23:02 (IST)25 APR 2023

End of over 17 (6 runs), Mumbai Indians 135/6

Nehal Wadhera 39(19)
Piyush Chawla 18(11)
Mohammed Shami 18/0

23:02 (IST)25 APR 2023

16.6 Mohammed Shami to Nehal Wadhera

FOUR! OH DEAR! Low full toss as he tails it into the stumps attempting the yorker. Wadhera manages to drill it down the ground before mid-off makes a terrible mess of it. He fumbles and threads the ball into the fence for four

23:02 (IST)25 APR 2023

16.5 Mohammed Shami to Piyush Chawla

SAFE! Back of a length cutter on middle and leg stump. Chawla backs away and cloughs it as he throws all muscle into it, only for the ball to lob up and drop safely between cover and point

23:01 (IST)25 APR 2023

16.4 Mohammed Shami to Piyush Chawla

tails a yorker right back into the stumps. Chawla is forced back in his crease as he jams it out to the bowler

23:01 (IST)25 APR 2023

16.3 Mohammed Shami to Piyush Chawla

AH! Dug short and angled into the stumps. Chawla backs away looking to upper-cut it cheekily over third man but can't connect

23:00 (IST)25 APR 2023

16.2 Mohammed Shami to Nehal Wadhera

DROPPED! PANDYA SHELLS IT! Pounded into the track outside the off stump as it rises on Wadhera standing tall and looking to belt it over the covers with a cross-batted hit. Balloons many a mile up before the GT skipper pedals back at mid-off, only to make a hash of it as he falls over. Not easy, but you'd expect him to take those!

22:59 (IST)25 APR 2023

16.1 Mohammed Shami to Nehal Wadhera

hones a yorker into the off stump from around the wicket. Wadhera jams his bat down to keep it out on the full

22:59 (IST)25 APR 2023

Mohammed Shami (3-0-12-0) is back into the attack

22:58 (IST)25 APR 2023

Oh only if MI had managed to bowl better in the death overs, there still would have been plenty left to cheer for for the Mumbai Indians. However, they need 79 runs from 24 balls, a feat that will be inhuman if achieved. Mohit Sharma has been strangely expensive tonight and this isn't helping his personal economy this season one bit.

22:58 (IST)25 APR 2023

End of over 16 (17 runs), Mumbai Indians 129/6

Piyush Chawla 17(8)
Nehal Wadhera 34(16)
Mohit Sharma 26/0

22:58 (IST)25 APR 2023

15.6 Mohit Sharma to Piyush Chawla

slower full length delivery on off stump. Chawla makes room to cream it wide of long off before easing back for the second

22:57 (IST)25 APR 2023

15.5 Mohit Sharma to Nehal Wadhera

slower full length delivery outside the off stump. Wadhera drags his swing across the line for a single to deep mid-wicket

22:56 (IST)25 APR 2023

15.4 Mohit Sharma to Piyush Chawla

back of a length delivery angling into the batter outside leg stump. Chawla hops aside and works it on the up for a single to long on

22:55 (IST)25 APR 2023

15.3 Mohit Sharma to Piyush Chawla

MISCUED...FOR SIX! Slower delivery in the slot outside the off stump. Chawla parks his front leg aside and shanks it high into the sky without middling it well enough. The ball still has enough legs to clear long on's head though for a maximum

22:54 (IST)25 APR 2023

15.2 Mohit Sharma to Nehal Wadhera

JUST SAFE! Slower full length delivery outside the off stump as Wadhera gets into position for the scoop. Lobs up over Saha who turns around and goes after it as it just drops over his head despite a dive. A throw ensues at both ends thereafter but both batters make their ground to complete the run

22:53 (IST)25 APR 2023

15.1 Mohit Sharma to Nehal Wadhera

SKIED MILES UP...AND OVER FOR SIX! Rank full toss at the stumps as he fails to get the yorker right. Wadhera brings out a wristy pick-up as he towers it a country mile into the sky before it drops down into the crowd behind square on the leg-side. This kid surely can bat!
