Hardik Pandya (Player of the series): I don't mind it, but there were some performances which were exceptional. Credit goes to the whole support staff and the team. I'm receiving the trophy for the team and I'm happy for the team. I've always tried to read the situation what was required at the time rather than preconceived ideas. I've had to evolve as a player and it has helped me as well. In my captaincy, that's what I look for - keep it simple, do what is required at that time. I have a simple rule with captaincy - if I am going down, I am going down on my terms. I have to take ownership of things. We spoke about having to take challenges. When we played the IPL final I felt the second innings was spicier. If you're back is against the wall we want to come out punching. Hopefully when the right time comes we can do it as a group.

22:42 (IST)1 FEB 2023

Mitchell Santner: It was a little disappointing. It would have been nice to take home the trophy but India were really good. Obviously Gill's in pretty good nick at the moment. Obviously tough if you lose five wickets in the powerplay. In India it can be challenging in the first few overs if it is swinging and doing a bit. Once it flattens out it gets better. But when you lose too many it's hard to catch up. (Looking ahead to the ODI World Cup on these shores later this year) That time of the year there could be a bit of dew around. You have to plan accordingly and I think most teams might bowl first. We saw some pretty good wickets in the ODI series. If we see such wickets in the World Cup it'll be great to be a part of. For us it's just about being able to chip wickets out and restricting teams to 320 on wickets like that.

22:41 (IST)1 FEB 2023

Rahul Tripathi: Nothing different. I was just looking to keep the same intent and stick to what went well for me in the IPL. I just wanted to stick to the same process. Would definitely be happier if I got some more runs but it was good to contribute. It was an important stage of the innings, so happy to do well. Playing for your country is a responsibility. You need to trust your process. You have to know what the team requires at that moment and also make the most of the Powerplay. That's what Rahul sir and all have been telling me, to keep playing the way I play and go for options I feel like I can take on. Glad I could do that. It was a terrific atmosphere. It's nice to play in front of such a crowd and really happy to win the series.

What are the pitch conditions?

According to the official broadcasters before the toss, the pitch has some brown spots on it. The ball will come on and will only get better as the match moves in the evening. With the dew factor present, the pitch is dubbed to be bowling first.

18:49 (IST)1 FEB 2023

So the news from the centre is that both India and New Zealand have made one change in their squad with a fast bowler. Umran Malik has replaced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, while Ben Lister makes his international debut for the Blackcaps as he comes in the place of Jacob Duffy.

18:44 (IST)1 FEB 2023

What New Zealand captain said?

Mitchell Santner: Looks like a pretty good surface eitherway. We'll have to do something first up. It was a challenge. 120 might have done the job there. We have to adapt and this looks like a better surface. It's my first time here. With the series on the line, it doesn't get better than this. The boys are ready to go. Both surfaces were extremely different. We did a pretty good job in trying to defend the low totals but it'll be a bit different today with batters looking for the big boundary. One change. Ben Lister comes in for Jacob Duffy.

18:43 (IST)1 FEB 2023

What India captain said?

Hardik Pandya: We will bat first. Just want to put some runs on the board and take on the game from there. It looks like a very good wicket. When we played the IPL final here, the ball did much more in the second innings. Keeping that in mind, we wanted to bat first. The approach they are showing is giving us a lot of confidence. They were difficult tracks and all the batters' eyes have lit up looking at this surface. These are the games we strive for, we've spoken about this. Winning and losing happens but these knockout games teach you a lot. One change. Umran comes back in for Yuzi.
