52' That Martial touch, though. What a player. What an absolutely infuriating player. Henrikh Mkhitaryan meanwhile misplaces a straight ten-yarder to Darmian - the Armenian has looked as dazed as Lukaku since the Pogba injury.

51' A sumptuous Martial backheel releases Darmian into space on the right flank but his cutback is met first by Jardel. Mata pounces on Jardel's poor clearance and thumps a right-footed shot well off target

A rather dour half, lit occasionally by a Benfica passing move or a Tony Martial dribble, comes to an end as Mourinho stalks back into the dressing room - a hairdryer is probably getting charged to max capacity in there

46' OH LUKAKU! Samaris plays a superb through ball to Lukaku - a miss pass of epic proportions - but the Belgian seems to have utterly lost his scoring touch as he fluffs his lines and sends a shot straight off Svilar's body.

OH MY, SVILAR! Nemanja Matic absolutely larrumped one that beat Svilar all ends up before bouncing off the post and into the small of Svilar's back - and back into the net. After the miserable incident of the first leg - you can't but help feel a touch sorry for the kid.

38' OH! MARTIAL! The Frenchman beats Douglas and Fejsa out with one shuffle off his hips and a flip-flap of his boots but just runs out of space as Ruben Dias forces him to go on the outside. Just a goal-kick but when Martial gets on his scooter he is one of the most exhilarating sights in modern football

37' Salvio races at United's defence again, before McTominay steps in his path and cleanly nicks the ball away - before repeating the trick with Grimaldo

36' Benfica roll the ball along the impeccable Old Trafford turf before the adventurous Douglas meanders forward and whacks one straight at Nemanja Matic. I can tell you Raul Jimenez, for one, was not impressed with the Brazilian right back's choice of action
