A couple of tweets before we end this.

22:25 (IST)29 NOV 2022

FULL-TIME! Netherlands 2 Qatar 0. So easy for Netherlands as they stroll to a win and condemn Qatar to their third defeat by a similar scoreline. The hosts are knocked out while Netherlands saunter into the round of 16.

22:21 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Steven Berghuis HITS THE CROSSBAR! Berghuis nearly scores a beauty. On his left peg he curls one in from the right-hand side and the ball thumps the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten. That was so close to a third.

22:20 (IST)29 NOV 2022

6 minutes of added time.

22:16 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Netherlands make another change as the game draws to a close: Kenneth Taylor is on for Frenkie de Jong.

22:16 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Couple of changes for Netherlands: Cody Gakpo is replaced by Wout Weghorst. Teun Koopmeiners is also on for Marten de Roon.

22:13 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Nothing great to report as Netherlands play out from the back and kill the game off. Qatar don't create much going forward.

21:58 (IST)29 NOV 2022

DISALLOWED GOAL for Netherlands for HANDBALL! Steven Berghuis taps into an empty net after it is squared to him but in the build-up Gakpo has controlled the ball with his hand. Qatar immediately protest and the Gambian referee goes to the VAR monitor to have a look and rules it out. Gakpo used his right-arm to control the ball before passing to the left-back.

21:57 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Netherlands also make a couple of changes: Davy Klaassen is replaced by Steven Berghuis while Vincent Janssen is on for Memphis Depay.

21:57 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Qatar make a triple change: Ali Assadalla, Karim Boudiaf and Mohammed Muntari on for Al Haydos, Madibo and Hatem.

21:38 (IST)29 NOV 2022

GOAL! Frenkie de Jong in the 49th minute! Netherlands 2 Qatar 0. Meshaal Barsham does not get the help he deserved there, a great save to keep out Memphis Depay's close-range shot but De Jong is quickest to react to the loose ball ahead of two defenders to turn it in. The defenders were very slow to react and De Jong pounced. Netherlands stretch their lead.

21:33 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Second half starts.

21:18 (IST)29 NOV 2022

HALF-TIME! Netherlands 1 Qatar 0. Cody Gakpo's goal has been the difference between the two teams. Qatar have been much improved tonight but Netherlands have had no trouble as they have played out nicely from the back and in midfield. Comfortable so far for the Dutch.

20:57 (IST)29 NOV 2022

GOAL! Cody Gakpo in the 26th minute! Netherlands 1 Qatar 0. Gakpooooo! He scores for the the third game in a row. He plays a delightful one-two with Davy Klaassen and takes an extra touch before getting inside the box and finding the bottom-corner. Meshaal Barsham had no chance and the impressive Gakpo continues to flourish.

20:55 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Qatar have a decent phase as they force a couple of corners but nothing comes off it.

20:42 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Netherlands attack down the left but the ball ricochets off a couple of legs to Meshaal Barsham who catches.

20:42 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Qatar's Ismail Mohamed receives treatment after getting a bang on the head. But he is OK to continue.

20:35 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Netherlands attack at the other end but Depay is crowded out as he attempts to shoot.

20:34 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Netherlands give the ball away and Hassan Al-Haydos strikes from distance but straight at the keeper.

20:30 (IST)29 NOV 2022

KICK-OFF!

20:22 (IST)29 NOV 2022

The players are in the tunnel and the anthems are next.

20:15 (IST)29 NOV 2022

This is the first meeting between Qatar and Netherlands. Qatar will also be taking on a European nation for the first time at a World Cup when they face the Netherlands.

20:06 (IST)29 NOV 2022

The players are out for the warm-ups.

20:00 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Meanwhile Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal with his thoughts: “I think you always have to identify the goal, the purpose for which you are here and then you can work your way toward that purpose,” said the Netherlands manager when asked about his pre-tournament announcement that the Netherlands would win the tournament. “If you say ‘Well, the round of 16 is enough, the quarter-finals are enough’, that isn’t the right way to do things. The right way to do things is to think you will become champions. I never said that we’re going to become world champions, but that we can become this.”

19:54 (IST)29 NOV 2022

More from Sanchez: “I think these players have achieved a great deal over the last years. Now we need to be aware that to compete at this level, we are still lagging behind. I think if we work at this on a daily basis, gradually we will be closer to this level. I don’t feel disappointed or embarrassed. The World Cup is the most demanding competition, and only a few can be here. We are still slightly behind. The country will continue working so that the next time Qatar comes to a World Cup, hopefully soon, we’ll be able to compete better than we did this time.”

19:52 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Qatar's Spanish coach Felix Sanchez pre-match had this to say: “When you play against a team such as the Netherlands, you don’t need any motivation”. “It’s a challenge for our players to face such a team. This was a very demanding group for us. We’ve competed with our ups and downs. We’d have preferred to be in a better situation."

19:44 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Qatar meanwhile make the one change from their loss to Senegal: Abdulaziz Hatem comes in for Karim Boudiaf.

19:44 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Two changes for Netherlands as Memphis Depay and Marten de Roon come in, with Teun Koopmeiners and Steven Bergwijn dropping out.

19:20 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Official Qatar XI:

Barsham, Mohammad, Ro-Ro, Khoukhi, Hassan, Ahmed, Al Haydos, Madibo, Hatim, Ali, Afif

19:19 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Official Netherlands XI:

Andries Noppert, Denzel Dumfries, Daley Blind, Jurrien Timber, Nathan Ake, Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie de Jong, Maarten de Roon, Davy Klaassen, Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay

18:58 (IST)29 NOV 2022

Memphis Depay's return to full fitness could also prove to be a huge boost for the Netherlands, with the Barcelona attacker set to start alongside Gakpo tonight. If reports are to be believed, Maarten de Roon is expected to join Frenkie de Jong in midfield in place of Steven Berghuis, while Davy Klaassen is also in line for a start.

18:58 (IST)29 NOV 2022

The Netherlands haven't really set the stage alight, but they have four points from two games and look primed to secure qualification to the knockout stages. Louis van Gaal has made his side hard to beat with a resolute backline, while PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo has taken the 2022 FIFA World Cup by storm with his performances so far. The 23-year-old is wanted by a handful of clubs across the continent and could enhance his reputation further with a goal or two, having already put the ball into the back of the net twice so far.
