Early Life

Virgil van Dijk was born on July 8, 1991, in Breda, a city in the southern part of the Netherlands. Van Dijk started playing football at the local amateur club WDS'19, and later joined the youth academy of Willem II Tilburg, a professional football club in the Netherlands.

As a youngster, Van Dijk played in various positions on the field, including as a striker and midfielder. However, he eventually settled as a center-back, where he found his true calling. He showed great promise as a young player and was eventually scouted by FC Groningen, a professional football club in the Netherlands, where he started his professional career.

Club Career

He made his professional debut for FC Groningen in 2011 and quickly established himself as a key player in the team. Van Dijk played for two seasons at Groningen, making 66 appearances and scoring 7 goals.

In 2013, van Dijk signed for Scottish club Celtic, where he played for two and a half seasons. He quickly became a fan favorite and a key player for Celtic, helping the team win two Scottish Premiership titles, one Scottish Cup, and one Scottish League Cup.
