Shubman Gill is the Player of the Match. Here's what he has to say: I'm in good form. I know it's all about getting a start and converting into the big one. I wasn't doing that at the start of the tournament but thankfully, everything is working out for me right now. T20 is such a game, sometimes you play the big shots and they find the fielder but you have to keep doing that. [Pitch] It was holding a bit but the pitch got easier to bat on. It was difficult for the spinners with the ball getting wet. [Chat while Shankar was struggling] I thought he was looking to hit it too hard and we had a conversation about it. [Cricketing shots] I know my game and it's important for me to keep building on that. It's going to be an exciting one, playing Chennai against Chennai. If we win that, we'll make it to the finals the second time in a row.

Hardik Pandya: The calmness the boys had inside was terrific. As I said, we wanted to keep the momentum going and we ticked a lot of boxes. [Gill] Shubman knows that when he plays those kinds of shots, he's a different batter. Today, the way he was hitting it, the bowlers feel like they don't have a chance. Even the batters at the other end get confidence from that. [Bowling] We would have taken 197 at the start but we didn't bowl at our best. The bowlers know that. It was a special innings from Virat as well but I feel like we didn't bowl at our best. [Playoffs twice in two years] I can't ask anything better from the boys. Last year, everything went our way. We were expecting people to challenge us this year and the character the team has shown has been terrific.

So, the Mumbai Indians are the ones who seal the final playoff spot. Vijay Shankar: We've been playing good cricket overall. This game was really needed for us. Going into the playoffs, chasing 200 runs and the way we chased it was hugely satisfying. Personally, I should have finished it. I was set and was hitting the ball well towards the end but overall it's a wonderful feeling to win the game. It wasn't easy with the new ball I felt. Whenever they bowled back of a length it wasn't coming onto the bat that much. That's why we weren't able to find the gap much. Shubman just showed everyone how to bat. (On not bowling) I've been practicing a lot, have been bowling in the nets and all. But with the current rule, we already have six bowlers in the team. Ready to bowl when required and I've been practicing in the net sessions. (On GT's success as a chasing side) We're trying to get closer to the target, not trying to overdo things - trying to keep up with the required run rate and take it as close as we can. Once we get closer to the target, we have the firepower to chase it. We saw what Rashid Khan did that day. (On Qualifier 1 against CSK) It's just the way we play the game. We've been playing really good cricket overall and have been playing really well. We've got two bowlers in the top wicket-takers and Shubman in the top run-getters. It's important to enjoy since we don't get to play the playoffs every season. To face CSK in Chennai will be really special. It's going to be a wonderful feeling.

Faf du Plessis, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain: (On what he is feeling) Obviously very disappointed. When you get to the last game of the campaign, you try to make sure you go through. Shubman Gill - to get a hundred, was amazing. We were off in one or two areas and against teams like GT, they capitalize. (On the score) It was really wet in the second innings but it was also wet in the first innings. There was not a lot of grip in the second innings. I thought 197 was a good score. Virat played an unbelievable knock to give us a chance. (On what could have been done better) The top four really contributed well, so some really good signs. We were a little light in the middle order - we missed a few runs consistently in the back end. We were consistent throughout the powerplay while bowling but in the middle, we did not get as many wickets as we would have wanted. (On Kohli) He has been amazing. He has played very good cricket throughout this season. It shows Virat has still got a lot left in the tank in T20 cricket. (On the areas that need improving before next season) We need to make sure that we are finishing things towards the back end. Last season, DK was wonderful. This season, it was not to be. There was a lot on his shoulders and ideally, we want someone to take that burden off him.

What a game of cricket. What a tournament. It all came down to the final league stage game with RCB and MI fighting for the final playoff spot, and it's Bangalore who fall short at the worst possible time. They needed the win to get through tonight but the defending champions stood in their way. Shubman Gill eclipsed Virat Kohli's century with a century of his own, and no one celebrated that more than the Mumbai Indians and their fans, perhaps.

Royal Challengers Bangalore fought their heart out and you can see the disappointment is evident amongst the players. This seemed like it could be their year. They had their fate in their own hands, but alas, they didn't manage to get the job done. After Kohli's century set a par total for the Titans, they got off to a sloppy start with Saha struggling to get a move on. The same was true for Vijay Shankar in the middle overs, which meant that Gill was shepherding this innings alone.

He did that with aplomb too, before Shankar finally joined the party and flicked a switch to notch up a half-century. That swung the momentum completely in Gujarat's favor but RCB fought admirably with the wickets of Shanaka and Miller, keeping their hopes alive. But ultimately, it was Gill, often referred to as Kohli's successor, who fittingly finished things off. Both batters scored consecutive centuries, but only one of them moves to the playoffs, while the other endures another heartbreak in the tournament.

Take a bow, Shubman Gill. Take. A. Bow. He gets the job done for the Gujarat Titans. Sitting in the dugout, Kohli throws his cap into the ground, evidently frustrated. His century gave his team hope, before Gill washes away RCB's hopes to end their campaign.
